What is an internship at a health tech startup?

An internship at a health tech startup is a temporary work opportunity where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in the intersection of healthcare and technology. Interns may work on projects ranging from software development and data analysis to marketing, regulatory research, or user experience design. These internships offer exposure to a fast-paced, innovative environment and the chance to contribute to solutions that improve health outcomes. Health tech startup interns also learn about the unique challenges and opportunities in digital health, often working closely with founders and multidisciplinary teams.

What types of projects and learning opportunities can interns expect at a health tech startup?

Interns at health tech startups typically engage in a variety of hands-on projects, such as assisting with product development, supporting user research, or analyzing healthcare data. The fast-paced startup environment encourages interns to take ownership of their work, collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, and often interact directly with founders or senior leaders. These experiences provide valuable exposure to both technology and healthcare sectors, allowing interns to develop practical skills and gain insight into the challenges of innovating in health tech. Interns can also expect to participate in regular team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and may have opportunities to present their work to the wider team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern at a health tech startup?

To thrive as an intern at a health tech startup, you need a basic understanding of healthcare concepts, data analysis, and relevant academic coursework in fields like computer science, engineering, or life sciences. Familiarity with tools such as Excel, Python, or data visualization platforms, and exposure to project management or electronic medical record (EMR) systems is helpful. Initiative, adaptability, teamwork, and strong communication skills set outstanding interns apart in the fast-paced startup environment. These skills enable interns to contribute effectively, learn quickly, and adapt to the evolving needs of the startup.

Job description

Location: Remote (United States)

Work Model: Remote

Industry: Health tech / AI

Compensation: $110K-$150K base, $220K-$300K OTE

About the Company

Our partner is a seed-stage health-tech company using agentic AI to solve prior authorization for specialty pharmaceutical therapies. The platform removes burdensome administrative work across every drug and payer, is free to providers, HIPAA-compliant, and already live in thousands of practices.

The Opportunity

This is an Account Executive seat on a twelve-person team where sales is a company-wide priority. Today the role is full cycle: source alongside the top-of-funnel team, run discovery and demos, and close.

The hard part is the domain. Prior authorization and pharmacy benefits are complex, and the reps who win can walk a practice through that complexity clearly.

Responsibilities
  • Own the full sales cycle into specialty practices and clinic groups.
  • Carry both self-sourced pipeline and opportunities passed from the top-of-funnel team.
  • Guide practices through compliance, data, and security questions with internal support.
  • Hand off closed accounts to onboarding with the context to activate quickly.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences.
  • Feed learnings back into messaging, targeting, and the go-to-market playbook.
Requirements
  • Approximately 3 years of closing experience in a quota-carrying role.
  • Ability to ramp quickly on complex healthcare subject matter and explain it plainly.
  • Startup experience, ideally at seed through Series B scale.
  • Based in New York and able to work onsite 4-5 days a week.
  • Healthcare or health-tech sales background strongly preferred.
