Position Summary:
The Electrical Engineering intern will assist in the design of electrical components to support robotic control of firearms and support departmental goals as assigned. This temporary engineering position is intended for engineering students actively working toward a Bachelor of Science in Electromechanical or Electrical Engineering. Engineering intern will work in a team environment with the R&D Designers, Test Technicians and Engineers.
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
*Process engineering design change orders.
*Assist with firmware and software development tasks using Linux, Bash, and Python to support testing and integration of hardware systems.
*Assist in the performance of tests and experiments.
*Analyze test data and write detailed test reports.
*Participate in testing and validation of electromechanical systems, identifying and troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
*Develop and run test scripts to automate processes and validate system functionality.
*Support the documentation of designs, test procedures, and configuration management for hardware and software artifacts.
*Engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration with teams to refine designs and improve product performance.
*Engage in business process and workplace continuous improvement activities.
*Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
*Participates in and sustains 5S Standards.
*Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
*Perform hands-on rework and assembly of PCBAs, cables, and electromechanical systems, ensuring precision and adherence to design specifications.
*Support the documentation of designs, test procedures, and configuration management for hardware and software artifacts.
*Manage prototype parts and products inventory.
*Consistently follow safe firearm handling practices.
*Follow all range safety procedures when in any of the range areas.
*Must be able to travel infrequently.
*Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Required Skills:
*Candidate for Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
*Advanced coursework in digital design, programmable logic design, PCB layout, motor control or similar fields preferred. Prior CO-OP, internship, or design project work preferred.
*Must have basic proficiency in report creation.
*Must have basic proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Word.
*Must have basic proficiency using PCB design software to edit and/or create schematics. Familiarity with Integrated Design Environments for SW and FW development.
*Experience using and maintaining firearms and/or related products is a plus.
*Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Working Conditions:
*Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
*Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
*Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
*The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
*Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
*Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
*Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
*Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
*Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
