The Informatics Pharmacist is a member of the Fred Hutch Pharmacy department under the administrative oversight of the Clinical Pharmacy Operations Manager. The Informatics Pharmacist is a clinical and technical subject matter expert who designs, validates, and optimizes the pharmacy medication-use system and its integration across the enterprise. Leveraging deep knowledge of patient care, pharmacy practice, and clinical information systems, this role translates user needs into safe/usable workflows, ensures highquality build, coordinates change management, and provides technical education. The informatics pharmacist will partner closely with Fred Hutch CBIS, Fred Hutch IT, UW Medicine IT, Fred Hutch clinic leadership, and vendor teams to improve patient outcomes, safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

This is a Full Time role that will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus in South Lake Union and remotely.

Responsibilities

Beacon Build & Configuration

  • Design, build, test, and maintain Epic Beacon order sets, treatment plans, and ambulatory workflows.
  • Collaborate with clinical pharmacists and oncology providers to translate clinical requirements into validated Beacon configurations.
  • Maintain build documentation and version control for all pharmacy-owned Beacon components.

Clinical Decision Support & Order Sets

  • Develop and maintain oncology-specific medication order sets, chemotherapy regimens, and supportive care pathways.
  • Partner with clinical pharmacy and providers to ensure clinical decision support (CDS) tools reflect evidence-based, site-specific practice standards.
  • Conduct periodic review cycles to retire, update, or optimize existing Beacon treatment and supportive care plans.

System Design, Build & Documentation

  • Serve as the pharmacy operations pointofcontact with Fred Hutch CBIS/IT and UW Medicine IT. Function as a pharmacy information systems super user to pharmacy operations.
  • Coordinate IT build for new medications into treatment plans to support safety and standardization.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of build decisions, processes, and workflows to ensure system support knowledge continuity.
  • Guide the IT build of the enterprise-wide pharmacy information system.

Operational Support & Troubleshooting

  • Respond to operational issues, troubleshoot application/workflow problems, research technical documentation, and escalate to analysts/developers/vendors with clear details when needed.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Infusion, and Ambulatory teams to foster interdisciplinary approach to shared clinical information systems.
  • Coordinate with operational leaders and analysts to determine the best way to implement IT changes while minimizing disruption.

Compliance & Standards

  • Follow requirements from the Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission, The Joint Commission, Department of Health, and other federal/state/local agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices in daily work for high-quality, safe patient care.

Collaboration

  • Provide subjectmatter expertise to clinical service lines on medicationrelated workflows and shared systems.
  • Collaborate with Fred Hutch CBIS/IT, UW Medicine IT, UW Pharmacy, and vendors to support shared systems and interfaces

Educational:

  • Develop training for operating clinic-related pharmacy medication systems.

Other:

  • Promote an image of service and goodwill to patients, public, and Fred Hutch staff.
  • Perform other pharmacy informatics duties as assigned
  • Perform other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission
Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Registered Pharmacist (RPh)
  • State of Washington Pharmacist License
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Pharmacist Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical or dispensing pharmacist experience with demonstrated understanding of the medicationuse process across care settings.
  • Certification: Epic Beacon certification or accreditation. May obtain after hire within a pre-determined certification timeline. May obtain "Proficiency Status" from Epic vendor in lieu of certification or accreditation.
  • Technical Proficiency: Handson experience with clinical/pharmacy information systems and standard office applications.
  • Technical Aptitude: Comfortably navigates diverse hardware/software ecosystems and connects workflows across applications and devices through handson experimentation. Selfdirects engagement with emerging tools. Maintains active, extracurricular exploration of technologies.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, concise written and verbal communication tailored to clinical and technical audiences.
  • Experience using pharmacy information systems (i.e., Pyxis, Epic, Hospira/Alaris Pumps, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Epic Certification - Eligible to receive this after hire.
  • Experience as a pharmacist.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy laws and federal and state regulations.
  • Able to work independently in a creative and assertive manner.
  • Able to maintain patient confidentiality.

Preferred:

  • Degree or certification in areas of pharmacy information management and/or clinical pharmacy, as applicable to assigned area of responsibility
  • Knowledge of computers, and pharmacy technology and automation systems.
  • Strong project and process improvement skills.
  • Prior experience in oncology clinical services, infusion practice, or ambulatory oncology pharmacy.
  • Experience administering or building pharmacy systems within integrated health systems, including interfaces and systems integration. Experience working with teams in the development and support of production applications.
  • PGY2 residency in pharmacy informatics, oncology, or equivalent informatics experiences.
  • Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP)

The annual base salary range for this position is from $156,832.00 to $261,352.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.ย ย
