Location: Downtown Orlando & UCF campus

Status: Internship- Temporary 

Hours: 20 hours/week-hours are flexible based on class schedule (must be during regular working hours)

Days: Ideally completing hours between Monday-Thursday

Internship run time: This internship will be a minimum of 6 months-1 year with the potential to extend.

Position Summary

Under the direction of designated staff, the Digital Health Innovation Coordinator intern performs assigned duties that support the operational excellence and technical advancement of Orlando Health Strategic Innovations' innovation pipeline, while gaining comprehensive experience in digital health commercialization and healthcare technology implementation.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Innovation Process Management & Coordination * Support execution of the Innovation Maturity Model (IMM) framework across all five phases: Vetting, Exploration, Development, Piloting, and Scaling. * Coordinate and facilitate OASIS (Opportunity Acceleration and Sustainable Innovation Sprint) sessions, including stakeholder scheduling, pre-session preparation, and deliverable compilation. * Maintain and update the Digital Health Innovation Deliverables Matrix, ensuring all project documentation meets phase gate requirements. * Assist with cross-institutional data sharing coordination, including IRB submissions, DUA preparation, and secure data transfer protocols.
  • Technical Project Support * Work with the OHSI Digital technology directors to maintain and monitor Orlando Health Strategic Innovations AWS infrastructure, including security compliance and cost optimization. * Support technical due diligence activities for portfolio companies and partnership evaluations. * Assist with software development project coordination, including sprint planning, backlog management, and stakeholder communication. * Conduct preliminary technical assessments for incoming innovation submissions using established vetting criteria.
  • Research & Analysis * Perform competitive landscape analysis and intellectual property scanning for innovation opportunities. * Research regulatory pathways (FDA, HIPAA, etc.) for digital health innovations and medical devices. * Support market analysis activities including TAM/SAM assessments and stakeholder interview coordination. * Maintain risk registers and compliance documentation for active projects.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication * Coordinate with Orlando Health Epic, Information Technology, Risk Management, and clinical teams to ensure innovation alignment. * Facilitate communication between internal teams and external partners, vendors, and research institutions. * Support preparation of executive briefings, phase gate presentations, and board reporting materials. * Assist with SME recruitment and coordination for technical validation activities.
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation * Maintain project management tools (Monday.com, ShareFile, etc.) and ensure data integrity across platforms. * Assist with grant application preparation and milestone tracking.
  • Operational Excellence * Support vendor evaluation and procurement processes for innovation initiatives. * Assist with budget tracking and financial modeling for innovation projects. * Coordinate travel logistics and meeting planning for multi-site collaborations. * Maintain secure password management and information security protocols. * Performs ancillary tasks and requirements on an as-needed basis. * Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. * Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Participate in regular in-person or virtual team meetings as assigned.
  • This position is preferably in-person at Orlando Health's downtown campus, with a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Support clinical immersion activities and innovation showcase events.
  • Assist with partnership development and due diligence activities.
  • Any other duties as designated.

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Must be pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering, health informatics, computer science, or business administration with a focus on healthcare innovation, preferably in year three or four of study.
  • Must be able to demonstrate reading, verbal, and written communication, mathematical, and reasoning skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities required.

Licensure/Certification

  • No licenses or certifications required.
  • preferred: Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and basic understanding of healthcare regulations.

Experience

  • required:
  • At least 1 year of experience with project coordination or technical project work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
  • Experience with collaborative platforms and project management tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • preferred:
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, JavaScript, or similar).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and basic infrastructure concepts.
  • Understanding of healthcare information technology security requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2).

  • Knowledge of digital health market landscape and regulatory environment.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and statistical software.
