Interns typically assist with budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, and royalty tracking for projects like films, television shows, music, or live events. This role provides exposure to how entertainment projects are financed, produced, and monetized, and helps interns develop skills relevant to both finance and the entertainment business. It's a valuable way to build a professional network and improve your understanding of industry-specific financial practices.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during an entertainment finance internship?

As an intern in entertainment finance, you will likely support teams with budgeting, financial analysis, and cost reporting for film, television, or other media projects. Tasks may include preparing spreadsheets, assisting with forecasting, and tracking expenses or revenues for ongoing productions. You may also help with contract reviews, royalty calculations, and preparing presentations for internal stakeholders. Interns often collaborate closely with production teams and accounting departments, gaining exposure to both creative and business sides of the industry.

  • Serve as a liaison between corporate Accounting & Finance and client Account teams to ensure alignment and seamless communication.
  • Prioritize and manage daily responsibilities independently, proactively identifying work that needs to be completed without requiring taskโ€‘byโ€‘task direction.
  • Research and resolve routine questions by leveraging available resources, documentation, and past examples before escalating issues.
  • Exercise sound judgment and provide accurate guidance to internal stakeholders on established finance processes and policies.
  • Analyze information and recommend solutions rather than simply escalating problems.
  • Continuously develop expertise in systems, tools, and processes and maintain a strong working knowledge of existing documentation and resources.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree with a focus on business management, project management, or similar discipline.
  • 2+ yearsโ€™ experience in finance, operations, project management, or a related field OR strong internship experience in one of these areas.
  • Strong knowledge of, and a genuine interest in, business operations, finance, project management, policies, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated learning agility with the ability to quickly absorb and apply new concepts, systems, and processes, and translate training and handsโ€‘on experience into independent execution.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and followโ€‘through.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highโ€‘quality work with minimal oversight and proactively identify and resolve discrepancies before they become issues.
  • Highly adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fastโ€‘paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work, manage competing demands, and operate effectively in an environment where responsibilities are selfโ€‘directed rather than assigned on a daily basis.
  • Highly resourceful selfโ€‘starter with a demonstrated ability to research issues, leverage available resources, and independently determine appropriate next steps before escalating.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to ask thoughtful, wellโ€‘informed questions and clearly articulate understanding, recommendations, and next steps.
