Job Description

As the energy systems laboratory, we bridge foundational research with practical applications to ensure various energy sources, storage, buildings, transportation, and emerging technologies work together to lower energy costs, drive economic growth, bolster national security, and deliver abundant energy.

The candidate will support a variety of tasks related to renewable energy data analysis and data collection with a focus on behind-the-meter solar analysis in NLR's Strategic Energy Analysis Center. The successful candidate will have strong research, data analysis, consolidation, and writing skills as well as experience compiling and manipulating large data sets for analysis. Experience with data collection using approaches like web scraping and a strong background with coding languages like R and/or Python required.

The candidate will support renewable energy technology, policy, market, financing, and regulatory projects through data collection, cleaning, and analysis; literature reviews; writing; and spreadsheet analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Data collection, cleaning, and analysis related to solar permitting, inspection, and interconnection

Leveraging LLMs and other tools for web scraping and data collection to produce novel datasets for industry insights

Support research projects examining distributed solar policies and other energy-related market analysis.

Data collection and analysis for renewable energy supply options for large non-residential, commercial and industrial renewable energy buyers.

Basic QualificationsMinimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Benefits SummaryBenefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) Employee Savings Plan with employer match*; and sick leave (where required by law). NLR employees may be eligible for, but are not guaranteed, performance-, merit-, and achievement- based awards that include a monetary component. Some positions may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement. Internships projected to be less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.
