JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Material Handler - Shipping & Receiving Driver
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Forklift Driver works with Supervisor coordinating daily warehouse/dock activities, including housekeeping. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned by Shipping Supervisor. Reads and follows work instructions. Drives industrial forklift equipped with lifting devices to push, pull, lift, stack, tier or move products and materials on and off trailers as well as in the warehouse and production, by performing the following duties.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must be able to ascend or descend from the vehicle to adjust the forks, inspect the load to be moved and operate levers or other devices to complete the assigned tasks. Must be able to drive in reverse when vision is blocked.
  • Responsible for inspecting the vehicle for proper operating conditions, report deficiencies and operate the vehicle in a safe manner at all times.
  • Must pass appropriate physical examination when required. Must satisfactorily pass a written and operating examination. Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Must understand and be able to read an order sheet (pick sheet).
  • Deliver correct containers to storage area without disrupting production
  • Place finished goods in proper area
  • Verify containers are empty and remove labels prior to sending back to suppliers
  • Communicate with truck drivers as needed
  • Report any equipment issues to active supervisor or manager
  • Ability to stop the process in event of nonconformity
  • Must be able to work in a fast-pace environment.
  • Must know and understand FIFO; understand 7-point inspection process for C-TPAT
  • Knowledge of loading weight onto trailer, including weight distribution, stack ability, organization of parts best suited for transit.
  • Knowledge of trailer alignment for wide rack loads; and verify safety chocks are in place and operation of the dock plates.
  • Work within a team environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES / EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  1. Previous Hilo driving experience preferred due to time constraints in shipment requirements to customer.
  2. High School Diploma or G.E.D
  3. Minimum 1+ year experience in Forklift/Material Handling preferred
  4. 1+ year experience in the Automotive Industry preferred
  5. Ability to safely operate Forklift equipment required
  6. Flex N Gate Forklift re-certification is required.
  7. Must be able to lift, twist, bend, squat, climb, stand and walk continuously in close, confined surroundings, as well as tolerate fumes and noise.
  8. Demonstrate a good Attendance record; should be 2.0 or better.
  9. Must be able to work mandatory OT as required 6-7 days per week.
