Job description

GMP is seeking an energetic, innovative and dedicated Electrical Engineering Intern for approximately three months in 2026 at either our Colchester or Rutland locations. This on-site internship is a great opportunity for an electrical engineering student to gain practical experience in the electric utility industry and apply the latest in the use of AI technology to help the engineering team. You'll gain knowledge on distributed generation and distributed energy resource interconnections, electrical distribution circuits, communication, various electrical equipment, distribution protection concepts, and you'll learn how to work as part of a team across various business units.
Successful candidates will apply technical knowledge gained from their electrical engineering coursework to learn the engineering fundamentals of GMP's electrical system and the small distributed generation project intake process. This position requires candidates to quickly learn the innovative tools and software used by GMP for its engineering and operating efforts, and work extensively with Operations Engineering, IT, and other GMP teams.
The intern's responsibilities are:
  • Learn and help coordinate GMP's small DG project intake process, including project tracking, documentation, and review readiness
  • Work with IT and engineering staff to identify automation opportunities using business intelligence tools and AI-enabled tools
  • Assist Operations Engineers with evaluating small DER interconnection requests
  • Support use of AMI data aggregation to approximate distribution line fuse loading levels and improve preliminary review efficiency
  • Acquire, organize, and validate data needed for intake coordination, engineering review, and process improvement
  • Learn CYME and assist with circuit model cleanup for larger DER or feeder back up studies, as project timing allows
  • Propose innovative solutions to improve existing DER intake and review processes including leveraging AI tools

The successful candidate will have:
  • Interest in pursuing a career in electrical engineering, power systems, distribution engineering, or DER interconnection work
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products and AI products such as ChatGPT or Claude
  • Interest in or experience with data analysis, business intelligence tools, programming, or AI-enabled workflow tools
  • Ability to learn technical processes quickly and manage assigned tasks independently
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams
  • Coursework or experience related to electric circuits, power systems, renewable energy, or data analytics is desirable

Compensation
Hourly rate of pay is $25. This is a temporary position for approximately three months, up to 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible and may be less than 40 hours per week. No overtime.
Location
This is an on-site position.at either GMP's office in Rutland or Colchester, Vermont.
