Description:
This position is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy to patients, employees, and the community.
This role ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory compliance, and good public relations through the safe and efficient use of resources.
Direct Patient Care (40%):
Establishes and implements a standardized Nutrition Care Process to identify and treat patients requiring Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Direct patient care includes monitoring and evaluating patient tolerance to therapeutic diets when appropriate.
Develops and provides nutrition education and counseling to patients, patient families, and patient caretakers.
Incorporates current evidence-based research into practice.
Indirect Patient Care (40%):
Performs and documents nutrition assessments.
Maintains pertinent patient data necessary to recommend, prescribe, or modify therapeutic diets as needed.
Writes and approves orders for therapeutic nutrition, dietary supplements, and nutritional supplements.
Collaborates with other services to plan and implement patient care as necessary in meeting nutritional needs.
Completes all required documentation, reports, and logs in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.
Regulatory and Safety (10%):
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Adheres to confidentiality and patient rights policies.
Follows organization and departmental policies and procedures.
Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement efforts.
Collaborates with the clinical nutrition team to approve nutrition care manuals, patient menus, and nutritional supplements.
Professional Leadership & Development (10%):
Attends regular meetings and actively seeks learning opportunities.
Seeks guidance, applies feedback, learns from mistakes, and tracks personal progress and development.
Leads change by positive example and supports team members during the change process.
Assists with the orientation and training of dietetic interns and staff as needed.
