Job Description:

As the Manager of Mechanical Engineering at Walt Disney World, you will lead a local team of 8 to10 project engineers, mechanical engineers, interns and coordinators in designs for attractions, rides, shows, and entertainment systems. You will oversee the mechanical design and technical project implementation across theme parks, transportation, water parks, and cruise lines to create memorable experiences for Guests and an inspiring work environment for Cast Members.

You will report to the Senior Manager - Mechanical Engineering

What You Will Do:
  • Manage day-to-day team priorities; collaborating with other managers and project engineers to provide appropriate number resources as required per project priorities.

  • Oversee a broad portfolio of engineering work. Ensure work product remains within the budget, schedule, expected quality and stakeholder satisfaction. Potential need to perform job captain or Project Engineer duties on larger projects such as design and engineering analysis and project management.

  • Perform second set of eyes reviews to teams' designs. Participate in project design reviews and provide leadership support of equipment installation and testing.

  • Mentor team members to ensure compliance with design workflow process, standards and codes.

  • Support internal customers such Facilities Asset Management (FAM), Engineering Services (ES), Central Shops (CS), Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), Disney Live Entertainment (DLE), Disney Cruise Line (DCL), and Worldwide Safety (WSA) with engineering resources for multiple small and large-scale park projects.

  • Facilitate the internal design workflow processes while ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, Disney, and industry standards for attractions and entertainment, such as the EPCOT Code and ASTM F24.

  • Review projects scope of work, project estimates, and ensure compliance to requirements and applicable standards.

  • Recruit and train interns as part of our overall recruitment program.

Required Qualifications & Skills

This is what you will need to be successful in the role:

  • Minimum seven (7) years proven experience in design of heavy mechanical equipment such as large conveyance systems, automotive or large robotic systems.

  • Demonstrated experience leading technical groups and multidiscipline teams.

  • Proven record of strong leadership skills with good coaching abilities.

  • Demonstrated strong partnering skills with stakeholders and customers.

  • Team player with excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Engineering and Design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing classical and/or computer-based engineering analysis utilizing hand calculations, FEA software or MathCAD.

  • Minimum three (3) years proven experience with Disney design standards and ASTM F24.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Natural inclination to work collaboratively and to influence outcomes through cooperation.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be helpful if you also had:

  • A current, active Professional Engineering license in the State of Florida.

  • Prior experience with Disney, or Themed Entertainment,

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Sciences or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.

  • Preferred: Master's degree in engineering management or business administration.

The hiring range for this position in Florida is $120,800.00 to $161,900.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
