Job description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Employer Relations, the Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing the University of Virginia's mission to prepare students for lives of purpose and impact by cultivating meaningful, outcomes-driven partnerships with employers.
As part of the University Career Center, this position serves as a strategic connector between employers, students, and career services partners within UVA's decentralized career ecosystem. The Coordinator manages a portfolio of employer relationships, supports recruitment and experiential learning opportunities, manages logistics related to employer-hosted programming, and collaborates across schools, colleges, and administrative units to ensure equitable access to high-quality career opportunities for all UVA students.
Responsibilities
Employer Engagement & Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of local, regional, national, and global employers recruiting UVA students.
  • Develop and maintain employer relationships that align with UVA's academic strengths, student interests, and institutional priorities.
  • Design customized engagement strategies that support internships, full-time hiring, experiential learning, and employer visibility on Grounds.
  • Conduct employer outreach through meetings, site visits, events, and virtual engagement.

Recruiting Support
  • Partner with employers to plan and deliver recruiting activities such as career fairs, information sessions, networking events, employer-in-residence programs, and industry-focused initiatives.
  • Manage On-Grounds Interviewing logistics for organizations within assigned portfolio and provide overall hospitality support for the program.
  • Develop and communicate guidelines, policies, and procedures that ensure access and opportunity for students.

Campus Collaboration & Decentralized Engagement
  • Collaborate closely with partners embedded in UVA's schools and colleges to coordinate employer engagement efforts and reduce duplication.
  • Serve as a liaison to designated academic units, student affairs partners, and alumni engagement colleagues to align employer outreach with curricular and co-curricular initiatives.
  • Share employer insights, workforce trends, and hiring needs with campus partners to inform programming and strategic planning.

Access & Employer Education
  • Advance UVA's commitment to access and inclusion by promoting inclusive and equitable recruitment practices.
  • Educate employers on strategies to broaden access to opportunities for all students.
  • Support outreach to employers whose values align with UVA's mission and commitment to the public good.

Data, Assessment & Systems
  • Maintain accurate employer engagement records, notes, and outcomes data in UVA's career management system (e.g., Handshake).
  • Track employer participation, student engagement, and hiring outcomes to inform strategy and reporting.
  • Use data and assessment to continuously improve employer engagement practices and student outcomes.

Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to Career Center initiatives focused on employer engagement, industry alignment, and applied learning.
  • Stay informed on labor market trends, recruiting practices, and employer engagement innovations relevant to UVA students.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative, learning-oriented team culture.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors degree required
  • Experience: 1+ years of relevant professional experience required
  • Licensure/Certifications: None

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a large public research university.
  • Familiarity with inclusive hiring practices and equity-centered employer engagement.
  • Knowledge of experiential learning models and internship programs.
  • Experience using Handshake or similar platforms.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary Range The anticipated hiring range is $52,000-$55,000, commensurate with education and experience.

  • This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 4 days on campus and one day remote per week, with additional on-site presence as needed, in accordance with UVA's remote work guidelines.
