What is an internship in corporate development?

An Internship in Corporate Development is a temporary position where students or recent graduates work with a company's corporate development team. These interns help analyze market trends, assist in mergers and acquisitions, evaluate potential business opportunities, and support strategic planning initiatives. The goal is to gain hands-on experience in deal-making, financial modeling, and strategic growth projects, while learning how companies expand and strengthen their market position. This internship is ideal for those interested in finance, strategy, or business development careers.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a corporate development internship?

As a Corporate Development intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects, such as market research, financial modeling, and assisting with due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions. You'll often collaborate with senior team members to analyze industry trends, evaluate potential business opportunities, and prepare presentations for executive leadership. The work environment is typically fast-paced and team-oriented, providing hands-on exposure to strategic decision-making processes and cross-functional collaboration with departments like finance, legal, and operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship in corporate development, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Corporate Development Internship, you need strong analytical skills, financial modeling proficiency, and a solid understanding of business strategy, often supported by coursework in finance, business, or economics. Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools, as well as experience with databases like Capital IQ or Bloomberg, is highly valued. Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability are vital soft skills for collaborating across departments and presenting insights to leadership. These competencies enable interns to contribute meaningfully to deal analysis, strategic projects, and the overall growth objectives of the organization.
