This internship provides hands-on experience in live arts programming via the Skirball's annual outdoor Sunset Concerts series and other public events. It will require the intern to become familiar with this music series, now in its 29th season, as well as the greater mission of the Skirball. This position requires regular collaboration with various departments at the Skirball, strong interpersonal skills, a keen ability to listen and respect for limited hierarchy created especially to maintain a fast-moving production schedule.

Dates/Hours:

The full-time summer internship is a hybrid position, with onsite and remote work days. 40 hours/week with a rate of $18.50/hr, for a consecutive ten-week work period starting June 15 and ending August 21.

The schedule is Monday Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with event support for a range of daytime, evening and weekend programs throughout the period of internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with artists across artistic disciplines, vendors, and various Skirball staff to help produce the Sunset Concerts series and other music-related projects.
  • Participate in weekly department staff meetings and marketing meetings as well as regular concert planning meetings.
  • Manage guest artist comps, and parking lists.
  • Support the Public Programs administrative assistant with hotel and other travel requirements as needed.
  • Assist with guest & VIP check-in and interacting with the public to provide a positive experience for all in person events.
  • Assist with merchandise sales and revenue reporting.
  • Develop and prepare handouts, signs, and program notes.
  • Assist Production Manager in the various event planning and setup needs for events including floor plan design, budget and event reporting.
  • Support the Production Manager and Public Programs coordinator with day-of-event needs and logitics.
  • In addition to the summer concert series, interns will also be required to provide onsite event support to a range of daytime and evening programs (such as book talks, Adult Education classes, film screenings, etc.) throughout the summer.

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:

  • Candidates should be motivated, organized, and adaptable to working in a fast-paced creative environment.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and internet research) are required.
  • Availability for event coverage during the entire summer concert series in July and August, which will contain a total of five (5) live shows. Weekday work hours will be adjusted accordingly for time spent working weekends and/or evening programs.
  • A passion for the arts and previous event production experience is preferred but not required.

Eligibility:

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled as a fulltime undergraduate student in either a Bachelor's degree program or an Associate's degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2026. Students who graduated this semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)
