Job description

Duties: Design and lead engineering efforts for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related DC, low-voltage, and medium-voltage AC electrical infrastructure, including switchgear and distribution equipment. Conduct and/or review detailed system studies such as ampacity, load flow, short circuit, power loss analysis, protective device coordination, and arc flash. Manage and coordinate project design, scheduling, and progress monitoring across all phases, ensuring compliance with IEEE, NESC, NEC, NFPA, QA/QC policies, and performance standards. Interpret client and developer requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Review manufacturer drawings for design compliance and integration requirements. Perform quality control checks on project deliverables, including drawings and engineering studies, and direct designers and drafters on technical drawing requirements. Collaborate closely with the BESS Manager, Project Manager, and multidisciplinary teams to provide technical leadership. Develop and enhance internal engineering standards, processes, and project execution strategies while staying current on evolving renewable energy and battery storage technologies. Serve as lead project engineer, coordinating with developers, engineers of record, and internal teams, with the potential to advance to project engineering group leadership within two years.
Requirements: Master's degree in Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Engineering, or a closely related field, plus a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy generation, electrical distribution, or medium-voltage (MV) power systems; or Bachelor's degree in Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Engineering, or a closely related field, plus a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy generation, electrical distribution, or medium-voltage (MV) power systems. Demonstrated expertise applying IEEE, NESC, NEC, and NFPA standards to utility-scale energy projects. Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with experience developing automation tools using VBA.
