Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials. Heidelberg Materials North America operates over 450 locations across the U.S. and Canada with approximately 9,000 employees.

Reporting to the Environmental Manager, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Intern to support our Aggregates and Hot Mix Asphalt operations in eastern PA. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside environmental and operational professionals to support regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement efforts across multiple locations. The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a leading construction materials organization while making meaningful contributions to our environmental programs.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Assist with environmental compliance activities, inspections, audits, and documentation across aggregates and hot mix asphalt operations.
  • Support environmental data collection, analysis, reporting, and recordkeeping related to permits, regulatory requirements, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Partner with operations teams to identify opportunities for environmental improvements and best practices.
  • Participate in site visits and field assessments to help monitor environmental performance and support corrective actions.
  • Contribute to environmental projects focused on compliance, resource conservation, reclamation, emissions reduction, or operational efficiency.
What Are We Looking For
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Natural Resources, Geology, or a related field completing at least your sophomore year.
  • Interest in environmental compliance, sustainability, and industrial or construction materials operations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn environmental data management and reporting systems.
Work Environment
  • Combination of office and outdoor field environments supporting aggregates and hot mix asphalt operations.
  • Frequent visits to quarry, plant, and production facilities, requiring work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with environmental, operational, safety, and maintenance teams across multiple locations.
  • Must be able to follow all safety policies and procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
