Responsibilities
Summary
The Plan Reviewer analyzes residential construction drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, with emphasis on the Federal Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards (HUD Code). The role may also involve code compliance reviews for residential and commercial projects. This position requires strong organization, independent problem-solving, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective professional relationships. On-site presence in Ashburn, VA is required up to two days per week.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, thermal, energy, and fire safety designs for compliance with HUD standards and referenced codes (NFPA, ANSI, etc.).
  • Perform independent calculations to verify performance-based design elements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to confirm findings and recommend corrective measures.
  • Research new design concepts and products; provide technical guidance to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate technical findings through internal reviews and external presentations.
  • Deliver professional development training and maintain current knowledge of codes and best practices.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of peer work and contract deliverables.
  • Maintain design files and records and assist with tracking assignments and performance reporting.

Qualifications
  • Associates Degree, Engineering or Architectural Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in residential or factory-built housing construction, including:
    • Energy code knowledge
    • Familiarity with major building trades (framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
    • Experience with quality assurance/quality control
    • Building inspections and code enforcement experience
  • ICC Residential Plans Examiner certification, or ability to obtain within 8 months.
