Since 1922, FPWA has driven groundbreaking policy reforms to better serve those in need. We work to dismantle the structural and systemic barriers that impede economic security and well-being, and strengthen the capacity of human services agencies and faith organizations so New Yorkers with lower incomes can thrive and live with dignity.
POSITION OVERVIEW
FPWA is seeking a Campaigns Intern for Summer 2026 to directly support our True Cost of Economic Security campaign, with the potential to continue in the position through the fall semester. This role provides hands-on exposure to policy campaigns, legislative research, and campaign coordination. The Campaigns Intern works closely with the Membership, Programs, and Campaigns Team to advance FPWA's mission under the guidance of the Campaign Manager and Campaign Coordinator.
What You Will Gain:
  • Applied Policy Experience: Direct insight into the New York City and State legislative and advocacy ecosystem.
  • Portfolio Material: Tangible campaign collateral and data tracking experience for future career placement.
  • Professional Mentorship: Direct collaboration and mentorship from the Campaign Manager and Coordinator.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Content & Collateral Development: Assist with the drafting and editing of campaign materials, external presentations, fact sheets, and more under the supervision of the Campaign Manager and Campaign Coordinator.
  • Event Coordination: Support the planning, logistics, and execution of panels, forums and legislative briefings
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Help
conduct outreach to coalition members and document participation during coalition calls.
  • Research & Preparation: Help advance campaign goals through targeted research tasks, including identifying state legislative prospects, compiling a list of new coalition prospects lists, and providing key data points on the True Cost of Economic Security.
  • Administrative Campaign Support: Assist with general administrative tasks including but not limited to meeting minutes, tracking project action items, and the campaign's document management infrastructure.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:
  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a graduate or undergraduate program in public policy, political science, social work, law, economics, or related field.
  • Introductory understanding of policy and advocacy landscape on key economic security issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interest in public policy, economic and social justice, and civil rights.
  • Creative and adaptive problem solver.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

COMPENSATION:
$20 to 25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
HOURS & SCHEDULE:
This is a part-time internship beginning in summer 2026 (July/August), with the potential to continue into the fall based on performance and campaign needs. The role is structured at approximately 21 hours per week (3 full days), though additional hours may be available during the summer months. Should the internship extend into the fall, hours would adjust as needed to accommodate the candidate's schedule and the campaign's priorities.
FPWA operates on a hybrid schedule, with staff in office Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The candidate will coordinate a weekly schedule with the Campaign Manager and Campaign Coordinator.
TO APPLY: Please submit a resume and cover letter outlining your interest in the position and relevant experience via BambooHR. No phone calls or other inquiries please.
