Overview

SUMMER 2027

Shure offers a challenging, fun, and rewarding summer internship program. The twelve-week program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students. We offer internships with a variety of work arrangements from onsite interns to fully remote in US. Each intern will receive a competitive salary. Additionally, Interns who are asked to relocate to Illinois for onsite internships will receive a housing stipend to cover living expenses. Applications will be collected, reviewed, and selected candidates will be contacted in late fall/early winter.

Join Shure's DSP Software team as a Audio DSP Engineering Intern to develop theย next generationย of intelligent audio products tailored for the live performer, the content creator, and the A/V conference participant!ย Contribute to projects thatย mayย include modeling,ย collecting data &ย evaluating,ย developing, and optimizing digital audio processingย and machine learningย algorithms forย various audio products.You will work closely with your mentor and teammates on projects that typically focus on advanced development projectsย in support of future DSP based audio features and processing for conferencing products like the MXA line.ย 

This Internship is Onsite in Niles, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver digital signal processingย and Machine Learningย features into a variety of intelligent products to provide best-in-class audio experience to end userย 
  • Simulate algorithms usingย Python,ย Matlab,ย and other prototyping tools; perform objective audio testingย andย conduct subjective listening validation; collect and evaluate algorithm performance data.ย 
  • Translate real time audio signal processingย and machine learningย algorithms from simulation model to floating- point DSPs, ARMs, or PC platforms in C/C++ย 
  • Optimize,ย test, and debugย algorithm operationย on real-timeย targetย platformย to meet product constraints (MIPS, memory) and requirements (latency, fidelity)ย 
  • Documentย algorithm design and performanceย 
  • Collaborate with members of larger cross-functional development team including acoustics, analogย /ย digitalย /ย RF hardware, mechanical, systems, and product managementย 
  • Work with technical mentor to estimate, organize, and plan work tasksย 
  • Present personal contributions to product stakeholders and executive managementย 
Qualifications
  • Completed at leastย threeย years of courseworkย in Electricalย or Computerย Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering,ย data science, AI/MLย or audio related major with an emphasis in Digital Signal Processingย 
  • Experience with Matlab or Python requiredย ย 
  • Experience with C,ย C++ย or Assembly language programmingย 
  • Experience designing any audio DSP software or hardware, preferably embedded implementations but can also includeย Matlabย /ย Python simulationsย 
  • Experience with software development tools such as Integrated Development Environments, compilers/linkers, and debugging tools (emulator, profiler, etc.)ย 

Experience with any of the following considered a plus:

  • Graduate students, or undergraduates with at least one year of DSP courseworkย 
  • Understanding ofย embeddedย platform developmentย 
  • Project work with AI/ML algorithmsย 
  • Psychoacousticsย 
  • A/V conferencing products and featuresย 
  • Algorithm research via survey of technical literatureย 
  • Microphone arraysย 
  • HRTF's and other binaural audio recording, rendering conceptsย 
  • 3-D Audio, Immersive Audio, Augmented Realityย 
  • Test and measurement equipment including audio analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.ย

Each internship has an hourly rate which varies from $23-$43 per hour based on job function (Engineering, IT, Business, etc) and year completed in school (Junior, Masters 2nd year, PHD, etc).ย
