Job description

R&T Software Engineer - GNSS Simulation

Granada, Spain

We're looking for a R&T Software Engineer- GNSS Simulation to join our R&T team in Granada, Spain and provide direct technical support in the development, validation, and evolution of our GNSS simulation and interference detection capabilities.

Our Technology:

Safran Electronics and Defense is a world leader in Resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (R-PNT) solutions that improve the reliability, performance and safety of critical applications, and high-risk operations, even in GPS/GNSS denied environments. We provide virtually fail-safe GNSS and PNT solutions for military and commercial applications worldwide.

Our team contributes to national/international innovation projects and business opportunities focused on resilient positioning, navigation and timing, GNSS simulation, timing distribution, synchronization technologies and interference detection and mitigation. The team develops and validates advanced simulation capabilities, including GNSS scenarios involving jamming, spoofing, signal degradation, and resilient PNT use cases. These activities support both research demonstrators and future product capabilities.

To this end, we work with technologies related to ultra-accurate synchronization (sub-ns) and frequency distribution. This allows to deliver a broad set of products and technical solutions based on the enhanced White Rabbit PTP synchronization technology for a variety of applications, ranging from timing distribution in financial networks to robust and reliable positioning.

The Position:

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will start working on a highly motivating engagement with the R&T Engineering Team in Granada, Spain, where you will be expected to develop the elements and tools of the GNSS simulation platform.

As an R&T Software Engineer, you will work closely with the GNSS Simulation team to extend the capabilities of our simulation platform, develop embedded software components and C-based functionalities, and support the improvement of interference detection and signal processing algorithms.

Thus, you will assist in the development, integration, and validation of the main critical scenarios under study. This could include custom simulation modules, user-level applications, software libraries, or even develop/test automation procedures. Moreover, you will implement the necessary extensions to our simulation scenarios, and debug and diagnose any issues arising during the design of these extensions.

You will be involved in national/international collaborative R&T projects, where technical rigor, clear communication, structured documentation is key, and the ability to contribute to demonstrators and technical deliverables is essential. Capability to elaborate showcase proof of concepts and traveling to technical meetings is expected.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will have the responsibility for understanding the requirements and assisting in the development of a project that includes highly innovative elements.
  • You will use your critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure highest quality results in accordance with the schedule, effort, and budget.
  • You will have effective communication with other project partners, project managers, and will be constantly communicating with them from project kick-offs to stakeholder meetings.

More specifically on the technical side:

  • Develop and maintain software components and C-based plugins for GNSS simulation platforms.
  • Extend simulator capabilities to support new GNSS scenarios, including interference, jamming, spoofing, signal degradation, and resilient PNT use cases.
  • Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of signal processing algorithms for interference detection and mitigation.
  • Work with embedded Linux environments and contribute to low-level or system-level software development.
  • Apply real-time programming concepts and support multithreaded or parallel software implementations when required.
  • Prototype, test, and compare technical approaches using C, C++, Python, and scripting tools.
  • Validate software components through unit tests, integration tests, test campaigns, and reproducible validation procedures.
  • Analyze test results, debug technical issues, and document findings clearly.
  • Use Git-based version control workflows and contribute to maintaining software configuration discipline.
  • Prepare technical documentation, validation reports, design notes, and project deliverables.
  • Support technical planning, task definition, research analysis, and project follow-up activities.
  • Contribute to demonstrations, proofs of concept, and technical reviews with internal and external partners.

Main responsabilities:

  • Contribute to the definition of technical specifications, software requirements, and validation criteria
