Job description

Sustainable Design Solutions, LLC (SDS) is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license and approximately 1โ€“5 years of experience to support the planning, design, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience or interest in water, wastewater, stormwater/drainage, roadway, and other municipal infrastructure projects.

This position provides an opportunity for a developing professional engineer to take increasing responsibility for technical design, project coordination, and project delivery while working alongside experienced project managers and senior engineers.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform civil engineering design and analysis for water, wastewater, stormwater, drainage, roadway, and related infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Develop construction plans and design documents using Civil 3D and other engineering design software.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, as applicable to project assignments.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, surveyors, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of local, state, and federal permit applications.
  • Review existing plans, survey information, utility data, record drawings, and other technical information to support project design.
  • Support development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Perform site visits and field investigations to document existing conditions and support design decisions.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including review of submittals, responses to RFIs, site observations, and resolution of field issues.
  • Perform quality-control reviews of engineering calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables appropriate to level of experience.
  • Manage assigned tasks and smaller projects with oversight from senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineer Interns and junior staff, as appropriate.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and meet established project schedules and deadlines.

Minimum qualifications and expectations include:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain Louisiana PE registration through comity.
  • Approximately 1โ€“5 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering design principles and practices.
  • Experience with water, wastewater, stormwater/drainage, roadway, land development, or municipal infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
