Job Description

This early-career role conducts architectural and associated site reviews of drawings and specifications for new construction and preservation of existing multifamily affordable housing developments seeking PHFA resources. You’ll evaluate design compliance with Agency requirements, coordinate closely with the Development Division, and provide clear written feedback to external design teams and internal stakeholders.


What you’ll do

  • Review Architectural and related Site drawings/specifications for compliance with PHFA architectural design standards; deliver written comments to architects, developers, and Agency staff.
  • Verify Architectural/Site Threshold and Selection Criteria certified in loan applications are reflected in Contract Documents.
  • Participate on Development Teams: complete comprehensive A+E reviews of assigned applications and report results to multifamily staff.
  • Assess application and construction costs for reasonableness, accuracy, and completeness; flag gaps and offer value‐engineering opportunities.
  • Verify data accuracy within financial Pro Formas and project descriptions.
  • Assist Technical Services Representatives during construction with change order reviews and resolution of design‐related issues.
  • Conduct site visits as requested to validate existing conditions and support document reviews.
  • Track comments, collaborate on resolutions, and support progress toward closings.


What you bring

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture (or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 2–5 years of relevant professional experience (internships/co‐ops considered); familiarity with multifamily or similar building types; affordable housing experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of architectural contract documents, detailing, constructability, and coordination with Site, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing and thermal envelope systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to translate code/standard requirements into clear written comments.
  • Collaborative communicator who can work with architects, developers, and cross‐functional Agency teams; organized and deadline‐driven.


Prefer

  • 3-5 years of Experience reviewing or preparing drawings/specifications.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., IBC/IEBC, Accessibility requirements, Fair Housing requirements) and cost estimating basics.
  • Exposure to pro forma inputs, construction cost review, and change order evaluation.
