Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Focus Interpreting is seeking a dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team. As an interpreter, you will be responsible for facilitating communication between deaf and hearing individuals by accurately interpreting spoken language into ASL and vice versa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide professional interpretation services during various settings, including medical, legal, educational, and social services.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication by interpreting spoken words into ASL and ASL back into spoken language in real-time.
  • Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity in all interpretation sessions.
  • Stay updated on developments in both ASL and English to ensure the highest quality of service and accuracy in interpretation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong proficiency in English, with excellent communication skills in both languages.
  • Certification or qualifications in ASL interpretation is preferred.
  • Understanding of the Deaf culture and norms to provide effective and culturally sensitive interpretation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
