Internship Accessibility Tester information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Accessibility Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Accessibility Tester, you need a basic understanding of web accessibility standards (like WCAG), HTML/CSS, and a keen eye for detail, often supported by coursework or training in accessibility principles. Familiarity with assistive technologies (such as screen readers like JAWS or NVDA), browser developer tools, and bug tracking systems is typically required. Strong analytical skills, clear written communication, and a collaborative mindset help interns effectively identify, report, and discuss accessibility issues. These skills ensure accurate testing, meaningful feedback, and improved digital experiences for users of all abilities.

What are Internship Accessibility Testers?

Internship Accessibility Testers are individuals, typically students or recent graduates, who are hired on a temporary basis to help evaluate the accessibility of digital products, such as websites and applications. Their main responsibility is to identify barriers that might prevent people with disabilities from using these products effectively. They often use assistive technologies, follow accessibility guidelines like WCAG, and document any issues they find. This internship provides practical experience in digital accessibility, which is a growing field focused on inclusivity and compliance. It’s a valuable entry point for those interested in technology, user experience, and advocacy.
