Position Description:
Student Immigration System & Student Advising Responsibilities (75%)
- Advise international students regarding their personal, financial, academic, intercultural, and social concerns.
- Maintain and manage the Student Exchange and Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database for F visa students in coordination with the United States Department of Homeland Security (USDHS)
- Responsibility as Designated School Official (DSO) to USDHS on behalf of the University.
- Assist students and Seattle University in complying with government regulations relating to the student immigration process.
- Coordinate and implement student workshops on immigration, such as Welcome Workshop Orientation, Optional and Curricular Practical Training, maintaining International Student Insurance, and career planning.
- Stay up-to-date and current with immigration related policies and developments to best serve the international student population of Seattle University.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the campus to identify potential enhancement of services to international students which may include providing training to different offices so campus constituents are aware of the basic aspects of student immigration.
- Maintain and ensure accurate records and databases each term (quarter/semester) that centralizes pertinent data about international students studying at Seattle University
- May represent the ISSC and Seattle University at various admissions events and to U.S. and international government officials and embassy representatives.
- Work closely with Academic Advisors to ensure the academic success of international students.
- Serve as a liaison with Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions to ensure the visa process goes smoothly for incoming international students; knowledge of the law school practices is helpful.
- Partner with campus colleagues to develop opportunities for career development for international students.
Student Programming & Assessment-Related Responsibilities (10%)
- Together with the Director and other campus colleagues, support the development and implementation of an International Student Success model at Seattle University.
- Plan, implement, and help market educational, cultural, and social programs for the ISSC.
- Conduct assessment of office programs and services.
- Assist in the writing and dissemination of various office reports.
- Provide guidance to student staff.
- Assist the Director in coordination of International Dinner and other major campus international initiatives.
- Partner with campus colleagues and the ISSC staff to develop a program for supporting and cultivating relationships with alumni.
New Student Welcome Workshop (5%)
- Coordinate the quarterly Welcome Workshops (new student orientation) for all new students (includes two separate sessions for undergraduate and graduate in the fall, combined in winter, spring and summer).
- Train and oversee the Welcome Workshop Leaders and Global Ambassadors.
Additional ISSC-Related Responsibilities (10%)
- Provide assistance in managing the ISSC website, and central email address, Facebook page, Instagram, and email list-serv.
- Assist in coordinating various special projects for the ISSC.
- Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Director.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, psychology, liberal arts, or related field plus four years experience working in an educational environment with responsibility for program coordination and international student advising or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- At least two years working abroad or working in the United States with international student populations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups. Ability to work effectively in a team-centered environment.
- Detail oriented with attention to accuracy and excellent organizational skills. Must have strong computer skills.
- All candidates must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university's mission, vision, and values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Student Development Administration or Higher Education/Student Affairs.
- Knowledge of SEVIS, USDHS, and USDOS regulations affecting F and J Visas.
- Knowledge of Seattle University databases, such as Colleague or Slate.
- Involvement within NAFSA and other international student advising organizations is desired.
- Foreign language proficiency and overseas living experience are highly desirable.

$50,000 - $55,000
