Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. Our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery next year. We are seeking a Rigging Field Engineer for the project in Pecos, Texas. You will mobilize to the project on a long-term (camp) assignment in Pecos, TX. This position is contingent upon project award.

Job Summary:

Supports preparation of lifting plans for mechanical equipment, skids and piping spools. Responsible for technical coordination with key stakeholders, such as field engineers, project control planners and superintendents. Able to perform field measurements required to elaborate the lifting plans, and ensuring work is executed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and schedule requirements. #LI-BH1 

Major Responsibilities:
  • Independently prepares conceptual lift and transport studies.
  • Provides technical input into the development of transport and rigging and lift strategies by advising project supervision and field engineering personnel on crane and heavy transport requirements.
  • Prepares technical specifications for bid packages and assesses subcontractor technical bid packages for lifting and abnormal transport requirements.
  • Provides input and assists in the preparation of estimates. Prepares medium and critical rigging plans; prepares lift data sheets and formal calculations.
  • Reviews and approves medium and critical risk lift and site transport plans submitted by subcontractors or others if a Bechtel Certified Rigging Engineer (CRE), or coordinates the approval for critical lift and transport studies with a Bechtel CRE.
  • May supervise the execution of lifting operations and abnormal site transport movements on a project, coordinating schedules with Project Controls.
  • Develops rigging training materials and conducts rigging training courses as required.
  • Monitors the application of standard work processes and procedures.

  • Provides expertise in the planning, review, and execution of rigging activities to ensure safe and efficient execution of work.
  • Monitors compliance of rigging operations with approved rigging plans and applicable codes.
  • Provides leadership in promoting a safe work environment.  
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Extensive working knowledge of rigging planning and execution standards and requirements. Technical knowledge and experience in construction engineering in the use of lifting equipment, alternative heavy lifting systems, mobile gantries, jacking, tailing, rigging equipment, and load distribution systems, including an understanding of transport/transfer of equipment, soil mechanics, and structural steel design.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration. Knowledge and understanding of environmental, safety and health requirements on heavy-industrial construction projects.
  • Knowledge in the administration and use of subcontracts; ability to interpret and understand contractor/subcontractors’ responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
  • Experience in supervising personnel and administering subcontractors preferred. Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.

Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
