Job Overview:
Weatherford have a great opportunity for experienced Crane Leads to join the ALS (Artificial Lift Systems) Team in Odessa, Texas.
The Crane Lead is responsible for safely planning, coordinating, and executing crane operations in support of the Artificial Lift Systems Product Line. This position oversees lifting and rigging activities associated with the loading, unloading, staging, and movement of artificial lift equipment while ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and customer requirements. The Crane Lead works closely with warehouse personnel, field service technicians, logistics teams, and supervisors to maintain efficient operations and a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate daily crane and rigging operations.
  • Perform pre-job planning, lift assessments, and safety meetings.
  • Operate or direct crane operations in accordance with company procedures and OSHA/API standards.
  • Inspect cranes, lifting devices, slings, shackles, and rigging equipment before use.
  • Ensure all lifting equipment is maintained, inspected, and documented.
  • Coordinate loading and unloading of Artificial Lift Systems equipment, including rod pumps, pumping units, motors, gearboxes, and related components.
  • Supervise rigging personnel and ensure safe lifting practices are followed.
  • Communicate with warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, and field operations to support customer schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and lifting activities.
  • Identify and report equipment defects, hazards, and near misses.
  • Promote compliance with Weatherford's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor team members on safe lifting and rigging practices.

Qualifications & Experience Required:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in crane operations, heavy equipment handling, or oilfield logistics preferred.
  • Experience working with pumping units and artificial lift equipment in oilfield operations.
  • Valid crane operator certification (where applicable).
  • Rigging and signal person qualifications preferred.
  • Forklift certification is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of safe lifting practices, load calculations, and equipment inspections.
  • Ability to read lift plans and equipment documentation.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of crane safety regulations and lifting procedures.
  • Understanding of Artificial Lift Systems equipment and material handling requirements.
  • Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with inspection documentation and inventory processes.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient, and productive workplace.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier loads.
  • Climb, bend, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and on-call schedules as business demands require.
