Job description

This is a remote position.

Are you an experienced accounting professional with a tax background, ready to grow into a leadership role as we build our US tax practice?

BooksTime is looking for an experienced, tax-savvy accountant who is excited about leadership, technology, and strong client relationships. This is a unique opportunity to start by doing the high-level senior accounting work you already do well — and then, little by little, grow into a Senior Tax Manager role, taking ownership of our US tax engagements and eventually helping lead the tax practice as it scales.

BooksTime is proud to be recognized on the Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies. We're building a modern, technology-forward accounting company that embraces automation and innovation — alongside trusted partner relationships with our clients — to create better experiences for both clients and team members.

If you're looking for meaningful work, real career growth, flexibility, and the chance to help shape a tax practice from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Join BooksTime?

A Clear Path into Tax Leadership

You'll begin in a senior accounting capacity and progressively take on more tax responsibility — reviewing returns, building processes, and ultimately helping lead our US tax practice. We promote from within and invest in people who want to grow.

High-Impact Work

You'll work directly with business owners and leadership teams to improve financial visibility, accounting operations, and tax outcomes — and your decisions will shape how the practice runs.

Modern Accounting Environment

We embrace technology, automation, process improvement, and AI-enabled tools to continuously improve the way we serve clients and support our teams.

Variety & Continuous Learning

Our clients span multiple industries, systems, and business models, providing constant opportunities to learn, grow, and solve new challenges.

Flexible Remote Culture

We believe flexibility and accountability can coexist. Our remote-first culture is built on trust, communication, collaboration, and ownership.

Requirements
What You'll Do

In this role, you will start by:

  • Leading accounting relationships for a portfolio of clients as a trusted advisor
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial statements and serving as a high-level resource for complex accounting issues
  • Supporting and mentoring our international bookkeeping team
  • Preparing and reviewing US tax returns (individual and business) alongside our existing tax resources
  • Collaborating on internal process, technology, and efficiency initiatives

As you grow into the Senior Tax Manager role, you'll take on:

  • Ownership of review and sign-off on US federal and state returns (1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, and 990 as the practice grows)
  • Building a team of tax preparers, including our offshore staff in the Philippines
  • Setting quality control, workflows, and tax-season capacity planning
  • Acting as a tax advisor on planning and strategy for SME
  • Partnering with ownership to shape service lines and grow the practice

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Comfortable taking ownership and leading client relationships independently
  • An excellent communicator and relationship-builder
  • Knowledgeable in US taxation, with the judgment to review and stand behind a return
  • Experienced in managing or mentoring people, and interested in leading a team
  • Adaptable and eager to learn new technologies, systems, and modern accounting practices
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Ideal experience includes:
  • Active US CPA (or EA) — strongly preferred for a role that grows into signing returns
  • Several years of US tax experience (individual and business returns)
  • Senior accounting leadership: Controller, Accounting Manager, CAS, or public accounting
  • Experience managing multiple clients or entities and mentoring teams
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting and professional tax

Benefits

Benefits include:

  • 100% remote

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities available

  • Schedules are flexible outside recurring collaboration windows with our international team. Team collaboration hours generally occur several mornings per week around 9:00–11:00 a.m. ET

  • A defined growth path from senior accountant work into Senior Tax Manager

  • Simple IRA with employer matching after 2 years

  • PTO for eligible employees

Pay:
  • $45.00-$65.00 per hour, based on experience, skills, and work location. Final offer determined during the interview process.
