About Specialty Program Group: Specialty Program Group (SPG) is the wholesale & MGA division of HUB International (5th Largest Global Broker). SPG acts in a holding company capacity acquiring best in class underwriting businesses to operate independently under distinct brands (portfolio companies).
About SPG Transportation - Moving and Storage: The Moving and Storage program has provided higher standard limits, more coverage, and fewer exclusions than any other carrier in the marketplace, while being the only Program with "A" rated underwriting partner for over 20 years. We celebrate our long-lasting business relationships that have allowed us to continue to serve the Transportation Industry.
The Underwriting Position: Provides underwriting and marketing support for the SPG Transportation - Moving and Storage Program. The strongest candidates will have a minimum of 4 years of commercial underwriting experience, additional experience preferred.
Scope of Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate new and renewal submissions for risk acceptability within program parameters and company guidelines.
  • Research outside sources for supporting information.
  • Calculate premiums and coverage amounts, and recommend program changes or enhancements.
  • Work within your underwriting authority and refer accounts that fall outside it.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with agents and brokers.
  • Service accounts through the full lifecycle, from submission to quote to post bind work like endorsements, loss control, post-loss analysis, filings and cancellations.
  • Document exposures, coverages, limits and pricing on each risk, and maintain files to program and company standards.
  • Deliver profitable growth through disciplined pricing and underwriting.
  • Operate independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Hit production goals on an assigned book.
  • Handle marketing, including in-person and virtual sales calls with agencies and insureds.
  • Build a pipeline of new business and cross-sell other lines.
  • Take on projects or research that support the Moving and Storage program's goals.

Job Requirements
  • 4 to 8 years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (High School Diploma/GED required)
  • Evidence of ongoing education and / or certifications preferred.
  • Multi-line experience including automobile, general liability, property, inland marine and Workers' Compensation
  • Active Property and Casualty insurance license required, or ability to obtain within 30/60/90 days of hire
  • Travel Required as per assigned book of business. 10% of the time.

Working Conditions:
  • General office conditions: remote, in-office, or hybrid options determined by manager.

Salary:
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages which could include health/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, FSA, HAS and 401(k) accounts, paid-time-off benefits such as vacation, sick, personal, floating holidays and company holidays. In addition, eligible annual bonuses, equity and commissions may be available for some positions.
