Program Assistant

Creative Minds International Public Charter School (CMI) is seeking a dynamic and energetic Program Assistant to join our school community. This role is a key part of CMI's effort to provide a full, enriching school day for students in PK3 through Kindergarten, from the lunch table to the playground to the aftercare room. Program Assistants bring structure, warmth, and intentionality to every part of the extended school experience, ensuring students feel safe, engaged, and cared for throughout the afternoon.

Program Assistants play an active role in CMI's new Flex Friday program, leading clubs and interest-based activities for students while teachers engage in professional development. This is a hands-on, people-focused role ideal for someone who loves working with young children and wants to make a meaningful impact every single day. CMI is driven by the internationally-minded International Curriculum Association (ICA) curriculum framework, and all staff are expected to embrace a culturally responsive, student-centered philosophy that honors the whole child.

Key Responsibilities

Lunch & Recess Supervision (10:00 AM โ€“ 2:00 PM)

  • Monitor the lunch environment to maintain order and a calm, positive atmosphere; support students in practicing healthy eating habits and social skills at mealtimes
  • Address behavioral concerns calmly and consistently in alignment with CMI's community expectations and restorative practices
  • Assist with general school tasks and classroom support as needed during this window

Aftercare Program (3:00 PM โ€“ 6:00 PM)

  • Prepare the aftercare space and materials prior to student arrival at 3:00 PM
  • Plan and lead engaging, theme- and unit-based activities that are enriching, playful, and developmentally appropriate; activities may include arts, movement, STEM exploration, literacy games, and more
  • Lead or co-lead a student club or sponsor an athletic group as part of the aftercare programming
  • Administer and document snack time in accordance with school nutrition guidelines
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and dismissal logs; communicate with families at pick-up in a warm and professional manner
  • Support program operations including room setup, cleanup, and materials management

Flex Friday Program (12:30 PM โ€“ 3:30 PM)

  • Co-facilitate student clubs and interest groups as part of CMI's Flex Friday program, working alongside teachers and external partners while lead teachers participate in professional development
  • Design and deliver structured, engaging activities aligned with club themes and student interests
  • Transition to regular aftercare duties following Friday dismissal at 3:30 PM

General School Community

  • Provide classroom and general school support as needed throughout the day
  • Adhere to all CMI policies, procedures, and community expectations
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and family information
  • Serve as a positive role model, fostering a respectful and inclusive school culture
  • Complete other duties as assigned by program managers, directors, and school leaders
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with school-age children in a structured setting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage small groups and maintain positive behavior expectations
