Job description

The Houston based Energy Client Coverage team is responsible for originating global Investment Banking business with a portfolio of approximately 20 US and Canadian clients involved in the Energy Transition sectors-Power (generation, transmission, distribution) and "New Energy" subsectors (Hydrogen, clean fuels, CCUS, etc), ranging from large publicly traded companies to leading private developers.  In addition, on the Oil and Gas side, there are approximately 20 US and international clients, including International Oil Companies, midstream, refining, oilfield service and petchem companies, also involved in the New Energy space.  

Bankers in Corporate Coverage provide business lines with access to client deal flow and assist in cross-selling all Societe Generale key global products.  This is accomplished through client meetings with CFOs and Treasurers, Treasury teams and Corporate Development teams to pitch new business.  Our goal is to develop business in accordance to Societe Generale's high standards, healthy returns and superior quality that meet the Bank's after-tax return requirements.

With offices in ~70 countries, a bulge bracket presence in the Euro capital markets, and an active IB presence in the Americas and Asia/Pacific, and Africa/Middle East, SG has a world class global Energy practice. SG is particularly well known for energy structured finance advisory: Renewables, Transmission, Oil and Gas Midstream, Downstream, Petchem) as well as a broad spectrum of traditional IB products (Global Debt Capital Markets, Global Equity Capital Markets, M&A, Acquisition Finance, Ratings Advisory, ESG Advisory, FX & Interest Rate Market Risk Advisory, etc.

The IB Analyst in the Houston Energy Client Coverage Team supports the Senior Bankers with the origination and execution of IB transactions, working closely with existing and prospective clients, as well as SG colleagues from the global investment bank.  
Day to day responsibilities (under the supervision of the Coverage team) include but are not limited to the preparation of:

  • Pitch presentations (slide creation and binding)
  • Pre-Screening / Support Memos (business cases and client profitability analysis)
  • Profitability analysis (advanced Excel modeling) for prospective transactions
  • Acquisition finance modeling (Three-statement, Discounted Cashflow, Merger, Consolidation)
  • Client profile development / Onboarding / KYC
  • Special sector studies as needed
  • Various internal reports and operational Coverage team support
  • Corporate Finance data gathering on individual clients or industrial sectors
  • Interaction with business line product specialists on specific client initiatives
  • Tracking of live deal and pitch communication for current and prospective clients
  • Yearly budget, periodic income forecast, income correction campaigns on the portfolio
  • Communication with clients for periodic Know Your Client document updates
  • Travel for industry presentations and client meetings as needed

TECHNICAL SKILLS

QUALIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATIONS

Required: 

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics from a first-class university
  • FINRA SIE, Series 79, and 63 registrations (successful completion of exams within 5-months of joining, if candidate is not already registered)
