Job description

Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Civil Engineer III to join our Engineering Team in Downers Grove, IL. This is a great opportunity to get involved in challenging and interesting design projects for various industrial and power clients.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum 6 years of Site Civil Engineering experience.

  • Engineer in Training Certification and working towards Professional Engineer licensure.

  • AutoCAD and Civil 3D proficiency.

  • Experience with grading and Earthwork site design.

  • Experience with stormwater drainage analysis utilizing Autodesk Storm & Sanitary Analysis (SSA), 

  • Environmental Permitting knowledge (NPDES, wetlands, 404, Phase 1 ESA).

  • Site layout experience (parking, access, roadways, ADA compatibility, vehicle turning analysis).

  • Experience with Roadway / Paving design & specifications.

  • Surveying knowledge (topographical, boundary, plats, coordinate systems).

  • Geotechnical knowledge (sitework prep, roadway / heavy haul paving design) Security gate / fencing design.

  • Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills (Verbal and Written).

In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act, the expected salary range for this Civil Engineer III position is between $101,400 and $149,500 annually.   Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. 

This Civil Engineer III position is eligible for participation in Zachry's Total Employee Rewards Program, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and other ancillary benefits. This position is also eligible for participation in the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.

  • Perform Civil Engineering duties in the design, analysis, and preparation of calculations, drawings, and specifications for use on specific projects.

  • Performing duties such as grading, Earthwork site design, storm drainage analysis and stormwater detention pond analysis.

  • Perform and prepare civil site designs and modifications at various industrial facilities.

  • Support engineering team with scopes, budgets, and schedules.

  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines to participate in the development of plans and the basis of design documents to guide construction activities.

  • Apply basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts in development of engineering design packages.

  • Understand and apply applicable federal, state, and local codes and industry specific standards for engineering projects. Understand and be able to determine applicability of local, state, and international building codes.

  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.

  • Provide Material Take Offs and cost estimates for materials, labor, and engineering to determine a project's economic feasibility.
