Job Description

AECOM, one of the top aviation engineering and planning companies, is hiring a talented Civil Engineer with a keen interest in airfield and landside engineering to join our team in Tampa , Florida. As an aviation civil engineer, you will play a vital role in the development of airfield and landside planning and design for airport improvement projects.

Join a team of passionate aviation planners and engineers who are dedicated to delivering iconic aviation projects. Our experience spans several decades including landside and airside projects at all types of airports, large and small alongside many military installations. 

AECOM is recognized as a leader in airfield design, nationally and worldwide. This is an opportunity to be involved with AECOM aviation projects in Florida and across the US. You will join a team of dedicated aviation planners and engineers delivering iconic aviation projects.  The AECOM Florida Aviation Team currently has assignments across the state at airports ranging from large hubs to general aviation facilities, including Tampa International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Palm Beach International Airport, Gainesville Regional Airport, Punta Gorda Airport and numerous others.  

  • Develop civil airfield design and construction improvement documents.
  • Coordinate with planning and design team members, contractors, and sub-consultants.
  • Perform aviation-related civil design, planning, construction support, and client management services for General Aviation and Commercial Air Service Airports.
  • Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of airport engineering projects, including runways, taxiways, aprons, vehicle service roads, airfield lighting and signage installation, navigational aids, drainage improvements, utility relocation and protection, and pavement rehabilitation.
  • Engage in projects from start to completion, including planning, design, and construction administration of airports.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline design engineers and technicians.
  • Manage AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D design duties.
  • Analyze GIS data, client as-builts, survey data, geotechnical data, subsurface utility information, and other project development data.
  • Supervise and coordinate the production of several projects concurrently.
  • Establish positive client relationships and coordinate with clients, funding agencies, state aviation officials, FAA, and local permit agencies.
  • Conduct regular site visits during the design and construction phases of airport improvement projects throughout Florida.
    Qualifications

    Minimum: 

    • BS in Civil Engineering or related field and 2 years of airport/airfield planning or related civil engineering design experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 

    Preferred: 

    • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D Design
    • Experience with airport improvements from planning through the design and construction phase
    • Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and Airport Design and Engineering Standards
    • EI or PE certification, preferably in the State of Florida.
