Position Description
Title: Electrical Engineer
Department: Engineering
Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager
Status: Salaried Exempt
Position Description: Provide electrical engineering support for new and existing products. As the Electrical Engineer, the position handles the general electrical engineering tasks for the Engineering team. The person must be knowledgeable, about electrical safety and EMC compliance, and assist in assuring products meet global requirements.
Principle Accountabilities
  • Electrical Engineering Design and Product Development
    • Work with Product Management and Sales to analyze, plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
    • Product requirements analysis and specification - Write functional and performance requirement specifications.
    • Project planning and scheduling, as well as periodic product meetings (design reviews).
    • Detailed electronics and electrical design, e.g. PC board assemblies, wiring and cable assemblies, etc.
    • Prototyping - Management of prototype fabrication and testing, procure prototyped parts, build and test prototypes.
    • Write embedded software and manage outside supplier of software.
    • Software and electronics testing and debugging

  • Product Support
    • Manage agency (UL/CSA/CE et. al.) compliance for products, i.e. perform pre-compliance testing, coordinate testing with labs, maintain records, support follow-on services, as required.
    • Support purchasing / vendors / outsourcing
    • Provide occasional field service support and technical training for BP products; including installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines are installed and functioning according to specifications.
    • Assist in writing product documentation, i.e. operating instructions and service manuals.
    • Investigate equipment failures and electrical issues in the field, determine root cause, and make recommendations for corrective actions
    • Help resolve production line issues
    • Performs other related duties as required.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required
  • 4-7 years of experience in a product development / manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of electronics design
  • Proficient at Schematic Capture
  • Working knowledge of embedded software; assembly and C programming
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming or willingness to learn
  • Experience with global Safety and EMC compliance; UL / CSA / CE
  • Knowledge of Engineering documentation practices
  • Strong electro-mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent administrative, communication and organizational skills
  • Skilled in the use of PC applications including and MS Office
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
