The Commissioning Specialist is responsible for executing day-to-day field commissioning activities on upstream surface production facilities handling oil, water, and gas from wellhead through sales. This role supports all phases of commissioning, including equipment verification, instrumentation and safety system testing, pressure testing, facility purging, leak testing, flowback operations, startup, and post-startup optimization. Working closely with Commissioning Engineers, Commissioning Foremen, Operations, I&E Technicians, and contractor crews, the Commissioning Specialist ensures facilities are safely commissioned, verified, and transitioned into reliable production. Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge of upstream production facilities, process troubleshooting skills, operational awareness, attention to detail, and a steadfast commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Execute safe commissioning activities by serving as the on-site HSE leader, conducting daily safety walkdowns, emergency drills, LO/LC verifications, energy isolation activities, safety system override management, and enforcing Life Saving Rules, exclusion zone requirements, and Commissioning Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Perform instrumentation verification and safety system testing by supporting loop checks, validating Cause & Effect (C&E) systems, verifying transmitter ranges, controller setpoints, safety device trip points, valve operation, pneumatic controls, Human Machine Interface (HMI) functionality, and documenting punch list deficiencies while coordinating corrective actions with Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) teams.

  • Validate facility readiness through Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) walkdowns, Critical Valve Register verification, equipment receipt and inspection, flowback rig-up, mechanical integrity verification, lifting operations, and completion of commissioning checklists to ensure facilities are constructed and configured in accordance with engineering design standards.

  • Execute pressure testing, facility purging, and startup activities by establishing High Pressure Exclusion Zones (HPEZ), monitoring low- and high-pressure testing, conducting leak testing in accordance with ASME B31.3 requirements, coordinating pipeline and facility purge operations, verifying system integrity, and safely preparing facilities for production.

  • Support Production On-Line (POL) activities by directing flowback contractor operations, troubleshooting process flow, monitoring and optimizing facility performance during startup and stabilization, coordinating meter proving and baseline testing, collecting production samples, executing annuli pressure management procedures, documenting surface failures, and completing production deferral coding.

  • Facilitate successful transition of commissioned facilities to Operations through turnover walkdowns, completion of handover documentation, maintenance of commissioning records, After Action Reviews (AARs), WADA reporting, redlined P&IDs, inspection documentation, and project records while supporting facility design reviews, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience working with upstream oil and gas production facilities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership, hazard recognition, and regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to work a 14 days on / 14 days off rotational field schedule.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Ability to read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Critical Valve Registers, and Cause & Effect (C&E) matrices.

  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, safety systems, pressure testing, leak detection, and commissioning activities.

  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), energy isolation, flowback operations, and contractor oversight.

  • Experience using HSE Connect, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, ENBASE, and other field documentation systems.

  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 leak testing requirements and upstream production startup procedures.

  • Field-based role supporting commissioning activities at upstream oil and gas production facilities throughout the Eagle Ford asset.

  • Regular exposure to outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, industrial equipment, and active construction and production sites.

  • Participation in startup activities, emergency response exercises, extended commissioning operations, and rotational field assignments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to safely walk production facilities, climb stairs and ladders, and traverse uneven terrain.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment in accordance with company safety guidelines.

  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safely perform work in industrial environments for extended periods.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

$119,000- $140,000
