Job description

Software Engineer For Ai Integration

Halker Consulting is a nationwide provider of multi-disciplined Engineering, Design, Project Management, Procurement and Field Services for Oil & Gas, and other Energy industry sectors.

Halker Consulting specializes in Oil and Gas surface facilities, Power infrastructure, Environmental remediation and design, Automation and Digital Solutions, and federal, state, and local regulatory compliance.

As the lead Software Engineer for AI Integration, you will be the primary developer of the Halker Sandlot Fruition Machine - our proprietary AI platform - that takes engineering use cases from idea to deployed production tools. You will inherit an existing codebase (Python, Streamlit, GCP) and a prioritized backlog of use cases across several engineering disciplines. The goal is to build, test, and deploy tools that real engineers use on real projects every day. You are the builder who turns blueprints into buildings. The "blueprints" are already drawn - the use cases are scored, MVPs are defined, and SME partners are identified. Your job is to make them real!

Location: Centennial, CO. Candidates must reside in Colorado to be considered for this position. Hybrid work schedule is available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and deploy internal tools that speed up engineering design, document management, estimating, and project execution which could include:
  • Extracting data from P&IDs
  • Validating drawing packages
  • Generating cable schedules
  • Comparing BOMs
  • Automating QA/QC checks across engineering disciplines
  • Sit with engineers (who are not software people) to learn their pain points and turn those into working software
  • Own projects from start to finish: figure out the scope, build it, test it, ship it, fix it
  • Plug LLMs, APIs, and automation into practical systems that actually hold up in daily use
  • Keep existing tools running, fix what breaks, and improve things over time
  • Build feedback loops and accuracy tracking so every tool gets smarter with use, creating the proprietary dataset that becomes Halker's competitive moat
  • Present progress to the Executive team biweekly and quarterly, including ROI metrics and adoption data

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of Python development experience with production-deployed applications
  • Demonstrated experience building AI/ML solutions using LLMs (GPT, Gemini, Claude), computer vision, or NLP
  • Cloud platform experience (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure acceptable) including deployment and cost management
  • Experience with document processing: PDF extraction, OCR, structured data from unstructured sources
  • Web application development (Streamlit, Flaks, FastAPI, or similar)
  • Strong communication skills – ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical engineers and leadership
  • Self-directed and comfortable owning projects end-to-end with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in engineering, energy, or AEC industries (understanding of P&IDs, engineering drawings, BOMs)
  • RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture experience
  • Experience with prompt engineering and LLM fine-tuning
  • GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation (i.e. Base Salary): $105,000 - $125,000 dependent on experience
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and other Health Benefits
  • 401K Program with Company Match
  • Professional development: Budget for conferences, certifications, and trainings
  • Work alongside industry-leading talent, flexible working environment, and fast-growing company, while building a team and shaping the technology direction of Halker
