Job description

Job Summary

The Internal Transport Transporter provides safe, dependable, and courteous patient transportation services for all admissions, discharges, transfers, and morgues for the Grady Health System. Patient transporting services will include the emergency room, patient care areas/units, ancillary departments, and clinics. Transports equipment and all documents relating to patient care/transport. Maintains and is responsible for all departmental equipment (i.e. pagers, radios, wheelchairs, stretchers, transcarts, etc.).

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Previous training accepted, but not required and will be provided in patient handling, movement and body lifting techniques, Joint Commission requirements, OSHA regulations, Universal Precautions, CPR, and Death and Dying
  • Must be well instructed on the maintenance and cleaning of transport equipment
  • Must maintain close communication with Guest Services Coordinator/dispatcher
  • Must be physically capable of constant walking and lifting of heavy patients and/or equipment
  • Must have the ability to meet pickup and delivery schedules of all transport assignments
  • Must be courteous and professional at all times with patients, visitors, hospital personnel and volunteer staff
