JOB OBJECTIVE: The Internal Communications & Engagement Specialist will be responsible for creating, managing, and delivering communication and engagement strategies that foster an informed, connected, and motivated workforce. This role will oversee the development of internal communication materials, support employee recognition initiatives, and organize engagement events that reinforce company culture and values. The specialist will collaborate closely with leadership to ensure messaging consistency and to drive employee participation across all levels of the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, design, and distribute internal newsletters, announcements, and orientation content.
  • Manage SharePoint updates, ensuring timely posting of current events, employee milestones, new hires, and quarterly business results.
  • Coordinate and deliver content for safety meetings, town halls, and new driver welcome emails.
  • Create and produce internal promotional materials, including videos and campaigns.
  • Maintain consistency and oversee distribution of the employee handbook.
  • Plan and execute employee engagement events such as cookouts, holiday luncheons, themed celebrations, and recreational activities.
  • Organize driver appreciation events, raffles, and recognition opportunities.
  • Administer recognition programs, including awards and retirement acknowledgments.
  • Implement and manage the annual event calendar for employee engagement and recognition initiatives.
  • Support the company swag/gear store and promote brand engagement.
  • Collaborate with leadership and provide cross-functional support to marketing/sales initiatives when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; scope of responsibilities may adjust based on business needs.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and timeliness.
  • Always exhibit behavior in alignment with company core values.
  • Ability to work routinely on-site at a Cowan facility.
  • Role requires frequent travel to offsite Cowan facilities.
  • Ability to present clearly and confidently on camera.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or related role.
  • 1+ years of experience in event management & coordination
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, and communication platforms.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative and collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
