Job description

Less than 800 people have been to space. Virgin Galactic is changing that, and this role shapes how the world feels about that change. As Senior Manager, Consumer PR & Brand Communications, you'll sit at the intersection of PR and brand: building the narratives that generate desire, managing the press relationships that create reach with our consumer audiences, and ensuring our brand voice is distinctive and consistent wherever it shows up.
We're looking for someone with genuine creative conviction who sees a cultural moment before it passes, knows which journalists care about which angles, and can take a brief and return something better than what was asked for. Support the company strategy by holding ourselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.
You'll work closely with the Corporate Communications Manager, the brand team, the astronaut office, and operations to build a consumer presence that lives up to what we're doing.
Responsibilities
  • Lead consumer and lifestyle PR, managing relationships with the press who shape culture.
  • Own brand storytelling across external channels, ensuring consistency and creative quality in every piece of content that carries the Virgin Galactic name.
  • Write press releases, pitches, web content, and briefing documents.
  • Write and edit content for executive communications, including op-eds, remarks, talking points, and LinkedIn posts.
  • Plan and execute consumer PR campaigns, including program development for our astronaut ambassador program.
  • Develop communications that support, enhance and amplify our commercial partnerships.
  • Lead campaign ideation and execution with the broader marketing team, from concept through to delivery.
  • Manage relationships with a select portfolio of journalists and influencers across consumer and lifestyle.
  • Coordinate with external PR agencies on day-to-day deliverables and ensure alignment with internal priorities.
  • Contribute to editorial calendars, story pipelines, and announcement planning.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8 years and a Master's degree in related field.
  • 8-10 + years in consumer PR, brand communications, or a strong mix of both.
  • Proven experience with a portfolio of campaigns or brand moments that delivered results.
  • Exceptional writing ability across registers: you write well whether the brief is premium, playful, or technical.
  • Strong instincts for culture, timing, and what makes a story land with an audience rather than a client.
  • Experience working across agency and in-house environments.
  • Comfortable advising senior executives and operating with visibility at that level.
  • Ability to handle multiple workstreams simultaneously without losing quality.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve goals.
  • This role requires trust, discretion, and good judgment every day.
  • Ability to deliver under tight deadlines while maintaining the integrity of the message.
  • Demonstrate willingness to adjust thinking and behavior.
  • Ability to communicate in a manner that is timely, respectful, and open to other ideas.
