Job Description:

  • The Communication Specialist will be responsible for initiating and maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders during routine and emergency system events.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate communication with internal customers, including Transmission Management Centers (TMCs) and supervisors, as well as external customers and ITS partners during system events.
  • Support Transmission Power System Coordinators with the preparation, review, correction, and maintenance of outage reports and related records.
  • Perform clerical and administrative activities within the Generation Control Center (GCC).
  • Respond to phone calls from field personnel entering or exiting substations and power line rights-of-way and accurately record the information in the appropriate database.
  • Provide timely and accurate communication to field personnel during both routine operations and emergency conditions.
  • Monitor and track system events involving transmission lines and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all system outages.
  • Perform additional administrative and clerical duties as required.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree is a plus.
  • Previous field experience with an electric power utility, particularly in Generation and/or Transmission maintenance, line construction, or substation construction, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of electrical fundamentals and/or control center operations is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, supervisors, control center personnel, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain composed and communicate clearly during routine and emergency situations.
