THE POSITION

The District 8-0 Office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is excited to announce an opportunity for a driven college student to join their team as a summer intern focused on Right of Way and Real Estate Acquisition. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting staff with a variety of technical tasks that are essential for securing legal rights-of-way and real estate necessary for public infrastructure projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Right of Way and Real Estate Acquisition Intern, you will be integral to supporting the team with a variety of technical tasks associated with securing legal rights-of-way and real estate for public initiatives. Your role may involve engaging in the claims settlement process and undertaking other general responsibilities related to real estate acquisition, particularly within the transportation district offices. This internship is part of the 2026 Summer Employment Program and will be based in Engineering District 8, which encompasses the counties of Adams, Franklin, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the field, enabling you to contribute to significant public projects while deepening your understanding of the complexities involved in real estate acquisition and management. Ideal candidates for this internship come from a variety of academic backgrounds, including Real Estate, Business Administration, Urban/Regional Planning, Finance, Public Administration, Communications, as well as Civil Engineering or Surveying, among others.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from May 2026 through August 2026
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Schedule may vary with events within the press office
  • Travel may be required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll FULL-TIME or PART-TIME in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced program for the fall semester.
  • Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
