Job Overview – Editorial Intern

ROUTE Magazine, one of the country’s leading pop culture magazines, is seeking a dynamic and motivated Editorial Intern to join our vibrant team! This stipend paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of digital journalism, storytelling, and content creation. As an Editorial Intern, you will contribute to producing engaging pop culture stories, multimedia content, and social media posts that inform and inspire audiences. This role is perfect for passionate individuals eager to develop their journalistic skills, enhance their understanding of print and digital journalism, and make a real impact through compelling storytelling. Your creativity, strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for media will help shape our content across multiple platforms.

Duties

  • Assist in researching and fact-checking of articles following AP style guidelines.
  • Write short articles and stories for both print and digital platforms.
  • Contribute to social media management by creating engaging posts, monitoring platform engagement, and analyzing content performance.
  • Help with story development by brainstorming ideas, conducting interviews, and gathering multimedia assets such as photography.
  • Transcription of celebrity interviews.
  • Proofread articles to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic standards before an issue goes to print.
  • Online research as assigned.

Experience

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a journalism, communications, media production or related program or recent graduate.
  • Demonstrated experience in content writing, journalism or digital storytelling through coursework or professional projects. We are looking for excellent storytellers.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or TikTok for content sharing and engagement.
  • Basic knowledge of video production techniques including videography, video editing (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro), and broadcast journalism practices would be a bonus but not required.
  • Strong written communication skills with an eye for detail; experience with AP style preferred
  • Experience with research methods, fact-checking processes, and journalistic ethics is highly valued
