About Loveland Living Planet Aquarium:

Loveland Living Planet Aquarium (LLPA) is a mission-driven institution dedicated to inspiring people to explore, discover, and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems. Founded in 1997, the Aquarium provides impactful educational experiences for guests of all ages and backgrounds.

Since opening its Draper, Utah facility in 2014, LLPA has welcomed more than 10 million visitors and delivered over 650,000 educational experiences to students. Home to over 4,000 animals representing 650 species, the Aquarium features immersive habitats from around the world, including coral reefs, kelp forests, the deep ocean, Antarctic waters, tropical rainforests, Asian cloud forests, and Utah’s freshwater ecosystems.

Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 2019, LLPA is in an exciting phase of growth. With the opening of the Sam and Aline Skaggs Science Learning Center, the Aquarium became the largest in the Mountain West and the fifth largest aquarium in the continental United States, offering expanded opportunities for education, research, and professional impact.

Position Summary

The Motion & Graphic Designer creates engaging visual content that supports the Aquarium's mission, brand, marketing initiatives, exhibits, educational programs, events, and guest experience.

The primary focus of this position is motion design, with secondary responsibilities in videography and video editing and supporting responsibilities in graphic design. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in motion design, experience with video production and editing, solid graphic design skills, and the ability to manage creative projects from concept through final delivery.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Motion Design, Videography & Video Editing - Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and produce motion graphics for digital displays, social media, advertising, websites, presentations, events, and exhibits using Adobe After Effects, including kinetic typography, transitions, graphic overlays, titles, infographics, and visual effects.
  • Develop storyboards, style frames, visual concepts, and motion treatments, and bring graphics, photography, video, and brand assets to life through movement and compositing.
  • Plan and capture video footage for marketing, social media, exhibits, educational content, events, and other Aquarium initiatives.
  • Edit video in Adobe Premiere Pro, including shot selection, pacing, transitions, audio adjustments, color correction, captions, and integration of motion graphics and other visual elements.
  • Create motion and video content for multiple platforms and guest-facing environments, including digital signage and large-format displays, and adapt/export content for required aspect ratios, resolutions, frame rates, codecs, and formats.
  • Apply strong principles of pacing, timing, movement, composition, typography, hierarchy, and visual storytelling across motion and video projects.
  • Organize footage and project files and review final content for quality, technical accuracy, continuity, audio, branding, and messaging before delivery.


Graphic Design - Supporting Responsibility

  • Design print and digital materials, including advertisements, signs, brochures, event collateral, educational materials, exhibit graphics, presentations, social media graphics, and internal communications.
  • Develop visual concepts and create illustrations, icons, logos, infographics, layouts, and other assets using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Apply typography, imagery, color, composition, and visual hierarchy effectively, adapting designs for multiple sizes and platforms while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Create graphic assets that support motion and video projects and prepare accurate, production-ready files for internal production, outside vendors, digital platforms, and publishing systems.
  • Review designs and production files for accuracy, quality, brand consistency, and technical errors before submission or publication.


Collaboration and Project Management

  • Collaborate with the Art & Design Manager, Creative team, Marketing team, and internal stakeholders to define project goals, audiences, messaging, requirements, and deadlines.
  • Participate in brainstorming, concept development, pre-production, and project reviews; present work, receive feedback, and incorporate revisions.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines, with motion-design responsibilities representing the primary focus of the position.
  • Communicate project status, questions, challenges, and potential delays proactively and document updates, feedback, and approvals in Jira.
  • Maintain organized project files and department standards for naming, version control, storage, archiving, and final delivery.
  • Assist with other creative projects and responsibilities as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in motion design, graphic design, visual communications, multimedia design, film/video production, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Two or more years of professional experience in motion design, graphic design, video production, or a related creative field, including experience creating motion graphics.
  • Experience with video production and editing, with the ability to capture usable video footage in a variety of environments.
  • Strong graphic design fundamentals and a portfolio demonstrating motion-design work and design skills; video examples are preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Strong understanding of motion-design principles, pacing, timing, movement, visual storytelling, typography, hierarchy, composition, color, and alignment.
  • Experience preparing motion graphics, video, and static graphics for different platforms, aspect ratios, resolutions, and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to receive art direction, respond constructively to feedback, and work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with animation, compositing, 3D, sound editing, color grading, motion tracking, or other advanced motion and post-production techniques.
  • Experience creating motion and video content for digital signage, exhibits, large-format displays, or other guest-facing environments.
  • Experience with photography, illustration, storyboarding, or filming events, people, animals, interviews, educational content, or documentary-style material.
  • Familiarity with accessibility practices, brand standards, Jira, or experience in an aquarium, zoo, museum, attraction, or nonprofit environment.


Scope and Working Conditions

  • This position primarily works in an office and creative-production environment, with work in exhibit, event, installation, and outdoor areas as needed.
  • Periodic evening, weekend, or early-morning work may be required for filming, events, installations, or production deadlines.
  • The role requires extended computer use, movement throughout the Aquarium, and occasional lifting or repositioning of creative materials and equipment. Work may involve noise, changing temperatures, weather, animals, guests, events, and operational areas.
  • The position may assist with video shoots and the installation, testing, or review of digital and printed creative materials.
