Registered Nurse Intern (RN Intern)

Located in Manhattan, The New York Proton Center (NYPC) is one of the most unique and respected clinical partnerships in the world of proton therapy. The collaboration between Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Montefiore Medical Center and Mount Sinai Health System brings state of the art proton therapy treatment to the patients of New York and the surrounding areas.

Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse Intern (RN Intern) will work closely with the Nurse Manager, Lead Nurses and other nursing department staff members with the goal of learning more about the care of the radiation oncology patient. They may, at times, assist the department with day-to-day tasks needed to support patient needs. Some of these day-to-day tasks may include communicating with patients and staff via phone or email, rooming patients, and other department-related duties. In addition, the RN Intern will observe the work of the clinic nurses and nurse navigators under the guidance of the Lead Nurse Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Greet new and existing patients upon their arrival.
  • Observe RNs with preparing for consultations, on treatment visits and follow-ups to gain knowledge of radiation oncology nursing care.
  • Facilitate patient questionnaire completion.
  • Support communication with referring providers and their office staff under the guidance of the nursing team. Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  • Perform other department-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse with Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Desire to increase knowledge in Radiation Oncology Nursing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly motivated with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
