Title: Research Assistant (Intern)
Program: Healthcare Administration
Program Description:
Project Renewal is a leading non-profit organization with the mission of ending the cycle of homelessness by empowering individuals and families to renew their lives through health, homes, and jobs. Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $100 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City. Project Renewal is one of the larger social service agencies in New York City with Federal Qualified Health Center/Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Centers, OASAS licensed sites in addition to mobile health units. Empathic, trauma and harm reduction informed services are delivered at low or no cost without barriers to our clients who often have severe mental illnesses, co-occurring substance use disorders, and multiple chronic medical conditions. PRI strives to promote behaviors, attitudes, and policies that enable us to work inclusively and effectively in cross-cultural situations with clients, co-workers, and community partners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties of the Research Assistant include but are not limited to the following activities:
  • Managing and conducting recruitment and retention activities, including identification of eligible participants, informed consent and documentation, and the initial training for participants in the use of smartphone and text messaging
  • Data collection through chart reviews, measuring appointment adherence and cancer screening completion, review of SMS text exchange, communication with providers when needed, and conducting surveys
  • Administrating semi-structured interviews with participants and transcription of interviews
  • Communicating with other study staff and site providers regarding participants statuses and troubleshooting
  • Delivering, maintaining, and collecting study information and materials to participants in the study
  • Administrative functions in support of research such as data entry, data management, quality assurance, and ethical conduct of study protocols
  • Assisting study coordinator with SMS text messaging platform, content, application, and maintenance
  • Assisting study coordinator with developing training materials for participants

Qualifications:
  • College graduate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, comfort with computers (familiarity with REDCap is a plus. However related training will be provided)
  • Familiarity with human subject research including experience with persons experiencing homelessness is a plus
  • Strong English-language verbal and written communication skills (Spanish language skills is a plus)
  • Ability to adapt to flexible work schedule
  • Knowledgeable about working with the homeless population
