Job description

 Job Title: Software Engineering & AI Automation Intern
Clearance Required: None
Work Location: Tysons Corner, VA

Key Responsibilities:

The Software Engineering & AI Automation Intern will support development efforts within Alpha Omega’s Continuum Automated Framework, focusing on building reusable software components and prototypes that address real customer challenges. 

This internship provides hands-on experience developing scalable automation solutions, AI-powered tools, and modular software components that support federal programs and modernization initiatives. The intern will work closely with engineering and program teams to prototype new capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and transform program-specific solutions into reusable assets that strengthen Alpha Omega’s competitive position. 

This role is designed to support Alpha Omega’s long-term technical talent pipeline by preparing candidates for future roles in software engineering, AI automation, and solution development. 

  • Develop reusable framework components that can be leveraged across multiple programs 
  • Build customer-specific pilots and prototypes to address real operational challenges 
  • Support development of the Continuum Automated Framework through modular enhancements and automation features 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to convert program-specific solutions into reusable intellectual property 
  • Assist with building and integrating AI-powered automation tools 
  • Contribute to technical demonstrations and prototypes used in proposal development and recompete efforts 
  • Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services 
  • Support deployment and testing of applications in cloud-based environments 

Required Qualifications:

Required Experience/Skills:

Technical Skills 

  • Strong Python programming skills 
  • Experience with data processing libraries such as: 
    • pandas 
    • NumPy 
    • requests 
    • BeautifulSoup or similar tools 

Data & Database Knowledge 

  • Familiarity with databases such as: 
    • PostgreSQL 
    • MySQL 
    • MongoDB 
    • Elasticsearch 
  • Understanding of data mining, ETL pipelines, and data organization 

Data Visualization 

  • Experience creating dashboards using tools such as:
    • Power BI
    • Tableau
    • Plotly
    • Dash

AI & Machine Learning Exposure 

  • Familiarity with LLM and AI platforms such as: 
    • Azure OpenAI 
    • AWS Bedrock 
    • Google Vertex AI 
  • Exposure to NLP or machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, or spaCy 

Cloud & Search Technologies 

  • Basic experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud 
  • Familiarity with vector databases and semantic search technologies such as FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate, or Milvus 

Learning & Development Opportunities: 

 During the internship, the candidate will: 

  • Gain hands-on experience building enterprise AI and automation solutions
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to develop real program capabilities
  • Learn how to design scalable software components used across multiple programs
  • Contribute to prototypes and demonstrations that support proposal development and customer solutions
  • Build a portfolio of AI-driven automation tools and modern cloud-based applications

Expected Outcomes: 

By the end of the internship, the candidate will: 

  • Develop 4–6 reusable framework components for the Continuum platform 
  • Contribute to 3 customer-specific prototypes or pilots 
  • Support 2–3 active program teams, reducing senior engineering workload 
  • Assist with proposal demonstrations and technical solution development 
  • Create reusable assets that reduce future solution development time by 20–30%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
    • Computer Science 
    • Artificial Intelligence 
    • Data Science 
    • Software Engineering  
    • Information Systems
    • or a related technical field
