Senior Cisco Network Engineer

Summary:
The Senior Cisco Network Engineer is responsible for design and development of network services and technologies to meet client and business unit requirements.
Primary objective is to identify optimal networking and communications solutions that deliver long term capabilities, capacity, reliability and resiliency for the business units and clients to successfully maintain and grow their business operations.
The network encompasses a high availability design within a dual data center environment along with connectivity to many other data centers.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Cisco certification (e.g. WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security)
  • Internal systems, cloud and network infrastructure.
  • Microsoft related technologies: Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint
  • Virtualization technologies: VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft
  • Remote access solution support: VPN, Terminal Services, and Citrix
  • Remote monitoring and management of system alerts and notifications
  • Perform network assessments and security audits
  • Provide NetOps engineering, Tier 3, and integration support to resolve and mitigate unforeseen technical issues during component change implementation and in response to user trouble tickets.
  • Perform system administration, CM, security assessment, testing, and troubleshooting of Network Operations systems.
  • Proactively analyze the network environments you are responsible for to look for and resolve potential problems before they occur
  • Respond to incident tickets to troubleshoot and resolve problems within the environment
  • Use good judgment to balance competing priorities when handling multiple incidents as well as project-based work
  • Assist senior network engineers in the design and implementation of new infrastructure, and participate in implementing changes to the environment
  • Develop automation, processes, and tools to make deploying and supporting the infrastructure simpler, more reliable, and faster
  • Ensure network documentation is developed and maintained
  • Internal systems, cloud and network infrastructure.
  • Participate in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: update agent scripts, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard, and periodic system review
  • Deploy and troubleshoot Star2Star VOIP and other VOIP technologies
  • Document maintenance for all computer systems and network infrastructure
  • Communication with customers as required: keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • BA, BCom, BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or related Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 or more years of network engineering experience in an operational role
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, and routing protocols
  • Experience with protocol analysis, network analyzers, packet capture devices, or Wireshark
  • Familiar with UNIX and Windows servers, VMware, and their networking capabilities and requirements
  • Knowledge of network security concepts, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members, communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
