What is an intern athletic trainer?

Intern Athletic Trainers are individuals, often students or recent graduates, who are gaining practical experience under the supervision of certified athletic trainers. Their primary role is to assist with injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation for athletes, while learning on the job. Intern Athletic Trainers typically work in schools, colleges, or sports organizations, and their duties may include helping with taping, stretching, first aid, and documentation. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience required for certification and future employment in the field.

What are the typical responsibilities and learning opportunities for an intern athletic trainer during their placement?

As an Intern Athletic Trainer, you'll support certified athletic trainers with tasks such as injury prevention, initial injury assessment, and rehabilitation exercises for athletes. You'll also help with documentation, maintaining training facilities, and preparing athletes for practices or games. This role provides hands-on experience in sports medicine, allowing you to observe and assist with real-time injury management and collaborate closely with coaches, athletes, and healthcare professionals. It's an excellent environment to apply classroom knowledge, develop communication skills, and gain exposure to the daily workflow of athletic training staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern athletic trainer, and why are they important?

Job description

The Internship experience is designed to develop student athletes in discerning their calling and career while introducing them to various aspects of ministry through FCA. FCA Interns are collegiate volunteers who engage through FCA in a learning and developmental ministry experience during a summer or a semester. Interns who are serving through FCA are not employees and do not receive compensation by the hour or for production of their work. Interns serving with FCA may receive a nominal stipend for living related expenses during the course of the internship.
FCA internship experiences vary from location to locations; however, the primary goal of each internship is to develop the intern's understanding of his/her individual calling to ministry through related training and experience. Further information about each specific internship is available by contacting the FCA staff associated with this posting.
MINISTERIAL DUTIES
These responsibilities are critical to the FCA mission and this position plays a vital role in our ministry. FCA expects all functions and responsibilities outlined below to be carried out with a heart surrendered to serving God as a form of worship.
  • Agree with, and abide by, FCA's Christian Community Statement.
  • Follow a spiritual rhythm including daily prayer and Bible study to seek the Lord's will for FCA.
  • Lead, conduct and provide spiritual leadership for staff, volunteers, coaches and athletes through prayer, Bible study, worship and living by example so they are equipped to serve others.
  • Connect to and participate in a local church through worship and weekly involvement.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner that affirms biblical standards of conduct in accordance with FCA's Christian beliefs (see FCA's Christian Community Statement) at all times.

As an intern at Battlefield FCA, you would have the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff members and gain valuable experience in ministry and sports outreach. Depending on your specific role and responsibilities, you may assist with organizing events and camps, developing and implementing outreach programs, communicating with athletes and coaches, and supporting FCA staff in various administrative tasks. You would also have the chance to build relationships with athletes and coaches and share the love of Christ through your work with FCA. Overall, as an intern at FCA, you would have the opportunity to grow personally and spiritually while making a positive impact in the lives of others.
