An Entry Level Athletic Trainer is a healthcare professional who works with athletes to prevent, diagnose, and treat sports-related injuries. They assist in developing rehabilitation programs, providing first aid, and educating athletes on injury prevention. Typically, they work under the supervision of senior athletic trainers or medical professionals in schools, sports teams, or healthcare facilities. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to ensure athletes receive proper care. Certification and a bachelor's degree in athletic training or a related field are usually required.
To thrive as an Entry Level Athletic Trainer, you need a bachelor’s degree in athletic training or a related field, hands-on clinical experience, and successful completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) exam. These abilities are vital to ensure safe, effective care for athletes and smooth operation within a fast-paced sports or clinical environment.
A typical day for an Entry Level Athletic Trainer involves preparing for practices or games by setting up equipment, assessing and treating minor injuries, and supporting injury prevention programs. You’ll spend time evaluating athletes before and after activity, documenting treatments, and assisting with rehabilitation exercises under the supervision of senior trainers or healthcare providers. The role often requires working closely with coaches, physical therapists, and athletes to ensure a safe environment and optimize performance. During competitions, you may also provide on-field first aid and respond to emergencies as needed.
