Intern Administration information

What kinds of projects or tasks can an Administration Intern expect to handle on a typical day?

As an Administration Intern, you will often assist with a variety of tasks such as scheduling meetings, managing office communications, organizing documents, and supporting data entry or record-keeping. You may also help coordinate events, prepare reports, and assist multiple departments with administrative needs. These responsibilities provide an excellent opportunity to develop organizational and multitasking skills while gaining exposure to the daily operations of a professional office environment.

What does an administration intern do?

An administration intern supports office operations by performing tasks such as data entry, filing, scheduling, and assisting with correspondence. They often use office software like Microsoft Office and may gain experience in organizational and communication skills during their internship. The role provides practical exposure to administrative procedures and workplace environments.

What is the difference between Intern Administration vs Administrative Assistant?

AspectIntern Administration
CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduates; some internships may require coursework in business or administration
Work EnvironmentEducational institutions, corporate offices, non-profits; often temporary or part-time
Employer UsageOrganizations offering internship programs to train future professionals
Common Search IntentLearning about entry-level administrative roles or internship opportunities

Intern Administration roles are designed for students or recent graduates gaining practical experience, often with limited responsibilities. In contrast, an Administrative Assistant is a permanent or long-term position with broader responsibilities, requiring more experience and skills. While both roles support organizational operations, Intern Administration positions focus on learning and development, whereas Administrative Assistants handle ongoing administrative tasks.

What does an Intern in Administration do?

An Intern in Administration typically assists with a variety of office tasks to support the smooth operation of an organization. Their duties may include organizing files, scheduling appointments, handling correspondence, and helping with data entry or basic project work. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in office management, communication, and organizational skills. Interns often work closely with administrative staff and may be given opportunities to learn about different business functions.

Is 22 too old for an internship?

Intern Administration internships are typically open to a wide age range, and 22 is generally not considered too old. Many interns are in their early to mid-20s, and age does not usually disqualify candidates if they meet the required skills and qualifications for the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern in Administration, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern in Administration, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and basic proficiency with office software such as Microsoft Office Suite, often supported by ongoing studies in business or a related field. Familiarity with office equipment, document management systems, and communication platforms like email and calendars is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and a proactive attitude help interns stand out in supporting team operations. These skills and qualities are important for efficiently managing administrative tasks, ensuring accurate documentation, and contributing positively to a productive office environment.

How to be an administrative assistant with no experience?

To become an administrative assistant with no experience, focus on developing strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, especially proficiency in office software like Microsoft Office. Entry-level positions often value a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and basic knowledge of administrative tasks, which can be gained through online courses or volunteering. Gaining relevant certifications or internships can also improve your chances of securing an administrative assistant role.

Is 20 an hour good for an intern?

For an intern in administration, earning $20 an hour is above the average internship pay, which typically ranges from minimum wage to around $15 per hour. However, pay rates vary based on location, industry, and the intern's experience level, so it may be considered competitive in some areas and less so in others.

Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Intern to support the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration of our executive office. This is a hands-on opportunity to build real, practical accounting experience inside a professional investment-firm environment; the kind of experience that's hard to get in a classroom.

You'll work directly alongside experienced professionals, take ownership of recurring accounting tasks, and see how financial operations run day to day. It's a great fit for a student who wants meaningful, resume-building experience while keeping a light, predictable time commitment that works around a class schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and other financial accounts in QuickBooks
  • Record and categorize expenses accurately and on time
  • Track incoming bills and make sure payments are processed on schedule
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date financial records
  • Assist with routine bookkeeping and administrative financial tasks as needed

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks; or a strong willingness to learn it quickly
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information
  • Reliable, organized, and able to keep a consistent weekly schedule

Schedule & Logistics

  • Part-time: 5–8 hours per week
  • In-office at our South Bend location
  • Structured, recurring weekly schedule, set in coordination with your availability

Why Join Us

This is a great opportunity to grow and learn in a professional setting. You'll gain practical, resume-building accounting experience, work closely with experienced professionals, and develop skills that translate directly into a future finance or accounting career. If you're looking to turn classroom knowledge into real-world experience, we'd love to hear from you.
