POSITION SUMMARY

Lafayette School Corporation is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Health Teacher to join the team at Sunnyside Intermediate School for the 20262027 school year. This is a 1.0 FTE teaching position serving students in Grades 5 and 6. The successful candidate will foster healthy decision-making, promote physical, social, and emotional wellness, and create an engaging classroom environment that supports the developmental needs of intermediate students.

Candidates must hold a valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for elementary instruction or Health covering Grades 5 and 6. Candidates who possess a bachelor's degree and the prerequisite health content knowledge may also be considered through an approved alternative licensure pathway.


ABOUT SUNNYSIDE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

Sunnyside Intermediate School serves approximately 5th and 6th grade students in a learning environment intentionally designed to bridge the transition from elementary to junior high school. While serving intermediate grades, Sunnyside maintains an elementary feel by emphasizing strong relationships, student engagement, academic growth, and social-emotional development. Staff members work collaboratively to create a supportive culture where every student is known, valued, and challenged to succeed.

Located in the heart of Lafayette, Indiana, Sunnyside is part of the Lafayette School Corporation, a growing district that values innovation, collaboration, and student success. Greater Lafayette is home to Purdue University and offers outstanding educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities while remaining just one hour north of Indianapolis and two hours south of downtown Chicago.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for Elementary Education or Health instruction serving Grades 5 and 6.
  • Strong knowledge of age-appropriate health curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching health at the elementary or intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning, wellness education, and adolescent development.
  • Experience integrating technology into classroom instruction.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based health instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices, personal wellness, nutrition, safety, emotional well-being, and responsible decision-making.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, school counselors, administrators, and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Support district and building initiatives that promote student achievement and school culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

CONTRACT INFORMATION

  • Position: 1.0 FTE Certified Teacher
  • Contract: 181-Day Teacher Contract
  • Compensation: Salary and benefits in accordance with the Lafayette School Corporation Master Teacher Contract.
  • Start Date: Beginning of the 20262027 school year.
