80,700 - 98,700

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Underwriter, Trade Credit, to join our growing and dynamic team!

As a Underwriter in the Trade Credit team, this role offers a broad range of underwriting and development opportunities.You'll manage a portfolio of accounts across Canada, build strong Broker and Policyholder relationships, and contribute to initiatives that support profitable growth. You'll be supported by senior underwriters and management for guidance on complex files, while continuing to deepen your technical skills and market knowledge.

You'll be counted on to apply underwriting guidelines consistently, use sound judgment on risk selection, and bring forward observations on trends and emerging risks. You will also support the team by contributing to reporting and operational insights, identifying and executing on sales opportunities, and helping leaders understand portfolio performance.

What you'll do here:

  • Underwrite new and renewal business within assigned authority and guidelines.

  • Support day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives to achieve profitable growth targets.

  • Build market intelligence by working with Brokers, Policyholders and internal partners.

  • Present and explain Intact's product offering with strong technical proficiency, identifying opportunities to grow within your portfolio and beyond.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Claims, Risk, Operations) to share insights and support customer solutions.

  • Contribute ideas to improve workflows, service standards, and team efficiency.

  • Continue developing industry and product knowledge to strengthen underwriting decisions.

  • Review underwriting information and data, complete financial analysis, and apply critical thinking to risk and relationship considerations.

  • Negotiate terms and conditions for both new business and renewals, escalating exceptions as required.

What you bring to the table:

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years for the intermediate role and minimum 5 years for senior underwriter role in Trade Credit or equivalent experience in the financial sector.

  • Proficiency in financial statement analysis and a working knowledge of the Trade Credit insurance product.

  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Clear communication skills, with confidence to ask questions and appropriately challenge when needed.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a national team.

  • Solid analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills within assigned underwriting authority.

  • Professionalism and a high standard of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.

  • Demonstrated customer service mindset and relationship-building capability.

  • University and/or College Degree or any combination of equivalent education and experience. MBA, CFA, or CPA designation is an asset.

  • Bilingual in French and English is a requirement.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally, as required.
